There’s a reason this group voted for ONIM here. Considering it’s the frontrunner for WGA, it could gain enough momentum to upset at the Oscars, especially if Nomadland wins Best Picture.

This logic doesn’t make sense to me. If Nomadland wins Beat Picture wouldn’t it be more likely to win Original Screenplay. 8 out of the last 10 Best Picture winners have won Screenplay.
Also I think News of the World wins WGA. It seems to be well liked by the guilds and already won NBR. I’m pretty sure the three play adaptations will split votes and NOTW being a traditional crowd pleaser will give it the win.

Zhao isn’t Inarritu or Bong. As talented as she is, she’s still a newcomer. Nomadland is only her 3rd movie and I’m not sure if the Academy will be up to give her a sweep like this. And Nomadland isn’t a screenplay movie.
I believe ONIM will win WGA because of the nature of its screenplay being more based on dialogues. News of the World is more story based and Ma Rainey’s is more acting based.
