1917 was definitely liked by the Oscars with it overperforming with a screenplay nom.
Only three technical awards, and that Screenplay nom in fact hasn’t aged well.
December 5, 2020 at 2:41 pm #1203896840Leave No Trace was highly acclaimed too, doesnt mean it wins BP or Director.
It doesn’t have 97 on Metacritic though. It also wasn’t the main push for its studio, and certainly didn’t win the big prize of two of the biggest film festivals of the world. It also wasn’t released in a pandemic year.

FYC:
Picture: Nomadland
Director: Chloe Zhao
Leading Actress: Frances McDormand
Leading Actor: Anthony Hopkins
Supporting Actress: Olivia Colman
Supporting Actor: Daniel Kaluuya

Original Screenplay: MinariDecember 5, 2020 at 3:13 pm #1203896902Doesnt look like Mank is having the opening day, it had expected.
Also if ammomite gets released in a forest, does anyone hear it?

Yes, but it still over performed in nominations and walked away with three wins which is more wins than Once Upon a Time, Marriage Story, The Irishman, JoJo Rabbit, Joker, Little Women, and FvF had. So I’m not sure what your point is. The Oscars hated it so much they gave it a throwaway screenplay nom and more wins than most of the other nominees???
Make it make sense.

December 5, 2020 at 4:35 pm #1203897012But at least OUATIH managed to win something more substantial and relevant like Supporting Actor and Production Design (the most relevant for 1917 was only Cinematography, and many people were taken aback by the undeserved 1917 win in Visual Effects).
Anyway, I end the argument here.
All these movies are aging better than 1917 regardless of the award campaigns of the moment.December 5, 2020 at 5:12 pm #1203897096It would be slightly insulting if Fincher won Best Director when he allowed something this fucking stupid to happen: https://twitter.com/_katiestebbins_/status/1335309317227032578?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1335309317227032578%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fawardsworthy.org%2Fshowthread.php%3F49436-David-Fincher-to-direct-Gary-Oldman-in-B-amp-W-Mank%2Fpage160
Universal already did The phantom of the opera 5 years prior, and it had the rights to Dracula, so they were the studio to make those kind of films. And Frankenstein is very popular book, while The wolf man was made by MGM in 1924 I think. And even so, why would it be insulting?

I just saw on twitter today that it’s supposed to be dropping around Christmas day (hopefully it’s true).

Clayton wrote that Paramount is confident about its award chances.

Leave your feelings out of your predictions please.

Why are supporting actors and production design more relevant than how a film sounds and looks.
