PYW obviously won’t have a box office to back its campaign. But we are also in a middle of a global pandemic and the movie wasn’t released in every opened theater. Also, lets not forget theaters in LA and NY are all closed.

Exactly. A nominee like Joker would never happen this year, so it doesn’t make any sense to compare it with anything.

I also don’t understand why so many people think Mank is missing. Yes, the buzz is dying but it’s still about the Industry and how Citizen Kane (arguably the best movie ever made) came to life. I still think this is getting nominations across the board, even though I agree it won’t win many.

I also feel like the Globes and BAFTA’s will really embrace this film and give it some wins, and of course the CC’s just follow the Globes. It’s the guilds and the Oscars where I expect Mank to underperform, at least for the categories Fincher is up for.

Joker would’ve happened anyway. It literally won the Golden Lion at Venice. And the Industry clearly loved the movie.

The massive box office success had a lot to do with the industry love, just like BoRap. But besides that, it was about a very famous villain and starred by a very overdue actor. Box office aside, there’s nothing with those advantages this season.

Mank will be completely fine. Once again, critics = | = the industry.

I feel like in a better year Mank would perform like First Man and miss above the line only getting technicals despite being considered a golden child candidate beforehand. This year, however, there’s enough of a lack of flashy candidates that I can maybe see a director and supporting actress still happening in nominations, with picture Maybe.

Mank seems like Irishman. Big ambitious pic that people respect but dont love. So it will get a ton of noms and win very little. I dont see it missing BP at all. There is really not much else out there unless somehow Mauritinian, malcom and marie, and the other late films are anything outside of acting contenders.

Nomadland is very good but it doesn’t scream Best Pic.

I’ve got Chicago 7 in top sport but on a preferential ballot I think Soul might end up taking the statue.

Soul’s not gonna win, I’d say for now the favorite is Nomadland with Minari as the possible spoiler.

The Irishman has a 94 on MC. People did love it – it was just up against fierce competition. Nobody loves Wank. Wank is all alone.

Irishman was definetely loved and who didn’t love it, liked it.

Mank is liked and who doesn’t like it, hate it.

    #MankIsOverParty, anyone? We have canapés.

I am there!  Had to make space in Best Picture for Promising Young Woman, which I have now slotted all the way up in fifth.

According to one of the Oscars twinks from Youtube:

BREAKING: The Billie Holiday movie is now titled:

“Lee Daniels’ The United States Vs. Billie Holiday Based on the Book Chasing the Scream: The First and Last Days of the War on Drugs by Johann Hari”

It's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!
