Is it bad that I’m only predicting Da 5 Bloods to garner a single nomination – Best Supporting Actor for Delroy Lindo? It’s quite a divisive film, and I just don’t see any major fanfare for it.

“Da 5 Bloods” would be the Oscars BP nominee with the lowest IMDB ratings(6.5) in 20 YEARS and the least well-received film by audience among all contenders this year, if it got nominated.

While Zhao is well on her way to a secure win, terrified at the prospect of a Chicago 7 BP win as an unearned pat on the back for Hollywood.

FYC from what I've seen:

Best Picture - Minari, Nomadland, Another Round, Promising Young Woman
Best Director - Chloe Zhao (Nomadland), Lee Isaac Chung (Minari), Thomas Vinterberg (Another Round)
Best Actor - Steven Yeun (Minari), Riz Ahmed (The Sound of Metal)
Best Actress - Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman), Frances McDormand (Nomadland), Han Ye-ri (Minari)
Best Supporting Actor - Brian Dennehy (Driveways), Ben Mendelsohn (Babyteeth)
Best Supporting Actres - Youn Yuh-jung (Minari)

I don;t think it’ll happen at the Oscars but I do feel like the Globes will give the win to Chicago 7 in Drama Film. And Screenplay of course because they love Sorkin.

John's Best of 2020

Best Picture: Soul
Best Director: George Clooney-The Midnight Sky
Best Actor: Chadwick Boseman-Ma Rainey's Black Bottom
Best Actress: Viola Davis-Ma Rainey's Black Bottom
Best Supporting Actor: Delroy Lindo-Da Five Bloods
Best Supporting Actress: Amanda Seyfried-Mank
Best Original Screenplay: Soul
Best Adapted Screenplay: The Midnight Sky

I, Daniel Blake, Carol, Philomena, Tinker Tailor Spy and Drive all say hi.

Carol was a top contender all season.

It's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!

Oh, yes, it’s a very Globes film. Boy am I looking forward to Sorkin’s acceptance speech!!

I will be posting one review a day of this film, and I suggest you all read! They’re all very well written and a great argument on why this really isn’t a film anybody should be rallying for.

Now that some time has passed, you guys still think Soul is gonna be a BP nominee?

I just love movies. And awards.

Carol was a top contender all season.

Ir wasn’t an Oscar Best Picture nominee though which Promising Young Woman is expected to be.

FYC OSCARS : PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN IN ALL CATEGORIES (ESP. ACTRESS – Carey Mulligan AND ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY — EMERALD FENNELL), VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", ESSIE DAVIS FOR "BABYTEETH"

The way people thought Chicago 7 was dead and it’s probably a runner up by now with a very chance at the win.

Nomadland please, hold your title.

Carol was heavily predicted to make the Best Picture lineup.

Edit: I just checked and it was #6 in the odds, which is higher than PYW currently.

I think people are overestimating how much of a visibility issue The Father has (a bit like they did with Pieces of a Woman). We saw how the BIFAs (who do have a crossover in membership with the BAFTAs and yes the Academy) nominated it 6 times and they’re one of the only industry groups who have announced their nominees so far.

I expect it to under-perform with Critics Choice when they announce their nominations but with the industry it’s fine.

The way Mangrove makes Chicago 7 look like a student film project.

I think Chicago 7 may win some precursors like the Globes.

Chicago 7 smells Globe and BAFTA winner that under-performs at the Oscars.
