These anonymous Oscar and BAFTA voters reveal their preferences. They loved Nomadland, Sound of Metal, Another Round, Collective and Boys State. For performances they singled out Francis McDormand, Riz Ahmed and Daniel Kaluuya. https://www.screendaily.com/features/awards-whispers-anonymous-ampas-and-bafta-voters-on-viewing-this-years-contenders/5156411.article

There seems to be real passion for Sound of Metal. First SAG and now BAFTA and AMPAS. Keep underestimating it I guess.

Oscar and BAFTA voters, come on, not Frances McDormand again, please.

Watched News of the World and it honestly wasn’t as bad as I expected. It’s no Ford v Ferrari but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it get a Best Picture nomination anyway, along with a selection from Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Score and/or Sound.

I dropped this dull mess a long time ago.

I’m not predicting it, I just wouldn’t be that surprised to see it happen.

I have it in 10th Place right now. It actually seems like it does have a shot at getting nominated, even though I’m not currently predicting it. At the very least, Critics Choice will definitely put it in their Best Picture lineup.

Sound of Metal reminds me of stuff like The Florida Project, Drive, Inside Llewyn Davis, Carol, If Beale Street Could Talk, The Big Sick etc… in the sense that they had everything to land at the Oscar but ultimately failed to max out nods, despite their presence in critics circle awards and precursors.  Some of them ended up with nominations and Regina even won for her film, in this present case this could just be a nomination for Riz (if he is lucky) and nothing else.

News of the World is more likely to get nominated for Picture imo.

That is really selling short the accessibility (and rooting factor) of Sound of Metal, but that is par for the course in this preseason.

    Excellent comparison, except Carol.

It's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!

Some of you really seem like you haven’t seen SoM. It will sure have more passion than that dull and predictable watered down True Grit.

On the Rocks was the only deal between A24 and Apple TV+ and it was an Apple production from the very beginning. I don’t really know why you were expecting such a thing.
