The delusion to think that Sorkin isn’t winning screenplay in a walk

It’s also going to easily win Editing. It had the actual best editing of the year and also the flashiest, and the Academy always awards the flashiest film (which is why Bohemian Rhapsody unfortunately won).

    John's Best of 2020

    Best Picture: Soul
    Best Direction: The Midnight Sky
    Best Actor: Chadwick Boseman
    Best Actress: Viola Davis
    Best Supporting Actor: Delroy Lindo
    Best Supporting Actress: Amanda Seyfried
    Best Screenplay: Soul

    John's Best of 2021

    Best Picture: Nomadland
    Best Direction: Nomadland
    Best Actor: Lakeith Stanfield
    Best Actress: Frances McDormand
    Best Supporting Actor: Daniel Kaluuya
    Best Supporting Actress: Youn Yuh-Jung
Best Screenplay: Judas and the Black Messiah

If Trial is locked for a win in editing, it could pull a surprise nomination in Sound, since Editing winners usually pick up a sound nom.

Nomadland may still win BP without a Screenplay win provided that Chloe Zhao wins for directing.

It can and most likely will win both Directing and Writing. If Academy followed the logic you’re following, Birdman wouldn’t have won Original Screenplay. I’ll believe the ‘Nomadland isn’t winning Screenplay’ narrative when I see it.

But they’ve been going hand in hand because flashiest editing also had flashiest sound design. T7 has flashiest editing but not flashy sound design, me thinks
