lol News of the World. It isnt even a red meat movie like pundits said. No wonder it didnt perform like they were talking about at CC. Not even they believe in it. Zengel seems like a need to fill out my ballot pick. Don’t see it generating the necessary number 1 votes at all.

I hope this will lead to a directing nomination for Florian Zeller at the Oscars or even a win at Screenplay. Manifesting 🤞

If Zeller gets nominated at BAFTA, he’s probably going to be nominated a la Pawel Palikowski.

Not really comparable though because Pawel is a literal legend with both Ida and Cold War in his filmography, but I personally really want this wild thing to happen.

Just saw Judas and the black messiah, what a great film, far better than the Oscar front runners nomadland, mank and ma raineys. Judas deserved to win over those incredibly dull, boring, pointless movies. At least Daniel Kaluuya might win supporting actor, what a performance

Whoa! Pretty sure I’ve seen all serious contenders minus The Father and Soul (Disney+ doesn’t work here and ugh, why can’t they just have it available for rent at Prime?)

    Serious Predictions:
    Judas and the Black Messiah
    Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
    Mank
    Minari
    Nomadland
    One Night in Miami
    Promising Young Woman
    Sound of Metal
    The Father
The Trial of the Chicago 7

    Personal Choice
    I Care a Lot
    Judas and the Black Messiah
    Mank
    Minari
    Nomadland
    One Night in Miami
    Promising Young Woman
    Sound of Metal
    The Invisible Man
    The White Tiger

I just love movies. And awards.

Is it possible we get 5 nominees in Picture this year? A lot of the top 10 feel like really weak nominees.

FYC Emmys: "The Crown" in all categories, "I May Destroy You" in all categories, "It's a Sin" in all categories, "Small Axe" in all categories, Billie Piper ("I Hate Suzie"), Yvonne Strahovski ("Stateless") and Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials")

    I’m thinking 6-8.

    Right now, in alphabetical order:
    The Father
    Minari
    Mank
    News of the World
    Nomadland
    One Night in Miami
    Promising Young Woman
The Trial of the Chicago 7

The way the BBC did a segment on the Globes on their news broadcast and then did a separate segment on Minari immediately afterwards even though it’s not out here yet, only nominated for one award and isn’t a British film (they usually do this type of segment for films like Promising Young Woman or The Father lol).

That film’s rising power is just amazing to see.

I’ve been thinking the same thing. It’s very possible we end up with 5 or 6, I think

    Minari is winning Best Picture.

I’m officially worried about both One Night in Miami and Regina King getting in. I know the latter was always up in the air, but I truly do feel she deserves it (ugh, Fincher & Sorkin, ugh)

    Predix:
    Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
    Mank
    Minari
    Nomadland
    One Night in Miami
    Promising Young Woman
The Trial of the Chicago 7

    Just outside:
    Judas and the Black Messiah
    Sound of Metal
    The Father
