Most of us thought Chicago 7 will be the one to upset Nomadland for BP but turns out Minari is just starting its momentum after winning Best Foreign Language. If it wins BP at CC and ensemble at SAG (I still think it’ll be Chicago 7), then it gives it more boost considering the heated violence against Asians rn.

But I still believe that PGA and BAFTA will go to Nomadland unless they do something unexpected.

If Nomadland sweeps right up to the Oscars, then Hulu will have another bragging rights for winning Best Picture first before Netflix or any other streaming to do so.

So Soul is about to win 2 Oscars. The odds have it in Sound, and it could get noms in VFX and Screenplay, and Globes just started a controversy around Kemp Powers but for some reason some think it’s imposssible for it to get BP because it didnt get nominated at the Pundit Awards? If you let go of films like Snooze of the World and Promising Young Flop, you’d have plenty of room for it.

    Seven
    Fight Club
    Zodiac
    The Social Network
    Gone Girl
    Mank

I’m struggling to understand why a filmmaking icon like Fincher hasn’t won any Oscar yet.

Well, Social Network is his best shot but you can go ask director of Cat, Tom Hooper, for what the hell actually happened.

Besides that, most of his other works are dark crime thrillers which are not very Oscar-friendly, same for Nolan’s Sci-fi pieces. They will get their overdue rewards in the end anyway.

I feel very confident that the Best Director lineup at the Oscars will be Zhao, Fincher, King, Fennell, and Issac Chung. Chicago 7 clearly lost all of it’s passion again and that’ll hurt Sorkin’s chances here. There’s always at least one snub in Director and he seems like the most likely one.

Has Fincher done any space sci-fi film yet? I feel like almost every director attempts to do one of this in their career.

I feel really excited about Steven Spielberg finally putting his take on a beloved musical.

What? It’s still the #2 contender. What are you thinking?

Sorkin is not below King, Fennell, and Chung lol, especially King if you have watched ONIM.  ONIM, Mank, PYW all went home nothing today and they’re already weaker contenders than Chicogo7. A GG drama loss does not suddenly rule out a top BP contender this easily.  Just take a look at Spotlight, Shape of  Water, and King’s Speech.

Sorkin is absolutely a lock in this category considering Trial is #2 in best picture. Sure McDonagh and Farrelly missed at the Oscars but Farrelly well is Farrelly. And Sorkin is much more respected in the industry than the former.

    Likely scenarios:

    1. Zhao

    2. Sorkin

    3. Fincher

    4. King or Fennell

    5. Chung

    OR

    1. Zhao

    2. Sorkin

    3. Fincher

    4. Fennell

    5. King

In any case at least two women will be nominated for best director for sure.

King and Fennell are ahead of Sorkin because there’s no way the Academy doesn’t nominate 3 women when the Globes and Critic’s Choice did it and the DGA’s are guaranteed to do it. They would receive so much backlash.

There’s almost always at least one surprise snub and one surprise nominee in Director so I think Sorkin is the surprise snub and Chung is the surprise nominee. There’s zero passion for Sorkin’s direction in Chicago 7 and the film itself is losing momentum rapidly now after its Globe loss. Meanwhile, Minari is surging and looks like a Top 5 contender, and the Academy would make a big statement nominating two Asian directors in one year.

Nobody would care if they nominate two women instead of three. DGA and BAFTA won’t nominate King either.

Yes Regina King isnt happening. I now think Shaka King will get 5th spot at DGA after Sorkin, Zhao, Fincher, and Chung. I used to think Spike Lee would get it but S. King makes a lot more sense.
