I love Elsie Fisher but apart from Murray (have not seen Sound of Metal and Raci) her personal picks are garbage.
If you think this is bad go to her twitter account to see the rest of her awards. They’re all over the place.
January 21, 2021 at 12:01 pm #1203994821I simply do not understand why Odom Jr. has the most hyped perfomance of ONIM. It’s beacuse he sings? I mean, he wasn’t bad, but Ben-Adir and Goree were sooo superior, and they all should have been campaigned in Supporting.

January 21, 2021 at 12:02 pm #1203994836I just saw and wow she really liked Pieces of a Woman. Is she a member of the Academy?
And yet, didn’t even nominate Vanessa Kirby in Actress.

January 21, 2021 at 12:08 pm #1203994866I think Ben-Adir and Odom Jr. could be considered co-leads with Goree and Hodge as true supporting characters.
I think Odom Jr. is the most hyped because it is his character’s conflict with Malcolm X that drives the movie. I would love for Ben-Adir to make it too but personally, I don’t know who to remove to make that happen.
I just love movies. And awards.

The singing is a huge part of it, given his incredible interpretation. Cooke never performed A Change Is Gonna Come live, and seeing Odom Jr. do it is ethereal.
The central conflict of the film is the fight between Odom Jr. and Ben-Adir, and when Odom Jr. finally makes his argument, it’s a beautiful moment.
One of my favorite moments in the film is when Odom Jr. says at 1:27:30, “Maybe, but you were also always so much…more.”
For me, the most hyped up performance should be Ben-Adir who I view as clearly Lead. I definitely went into ONIM thinking about Washington’s Malcolm X, but Ben-Adir more than made him his own. I think the two–Ben-Adir and Odom Jr.–are among the best I’ve seen in their respective categories. I thought Goree and Hodge were also excellent. They all “deserve nominations” in my book.

January 21, 2021 at 12:17 pm #1203994913I did put a “lowkey”. I’m not saying she won because of Big Little Lies, but it’s a helper for sure, even if just a little.
Big Little Lies was airing at a similar time to Marriage Story‘s release. Watchmen aired more than a year ago.
Saying Abdul-Mateen will get in because he was in Watchmen is like saying Regina King will win Best Director because she was in Watchmen.

January 21, 2021 at 12:19 pm #1203994916I do agree that the conflict between Malcolm X and Cooke is the heart of the film, but I’m a little dissapointed to see Odom Jr. beign almost a lock for an Oscar nomination while Ben-Adir can’t even get critics circles nominations…

Me too.
I think what is worth baring in mind is that since 2003 (I think?) there has never been a case of someone getting snubbed at SAG for playing a real person. So if you don’t have one of Ben-Adir or Oldman in you should (even if you don’t have them in anywhere else).

I’m okay with Ben Adir and Goree being campaigned as leads. The entire 1st Act of the film focuses on Cassius Clay and his boxing match, and Malcolm X is the one who sets the events of the rest of the film into motion.

How are you defining snub? Because there are naturally a hell of a lot of portrayals of real people who didn’t get nominated for SAG or for most other major awards.

To be fair we probably shouldn’t be picking over the choices of a teenager. I know she’s technically almost an adult, but it’s still pretty young.

There has always been one person nominated at SAG for playing a real person in the lead Actor category since around ’03 is what I meant. Even if they didn’t manage to make it to the Oscars.
