I’m weirdly confident in David Strathairn getting in
6th Place WGA 2021
12th Place VES 2021
61st Place BAFTA nominations 2021February 28, 2021 at 3:22 am #1204066034She’s the daughter of two big film stars who wasn’t given any Oscar, she’s been accumulating respect for her forty years career, she’s a literal overdue the same way Gena Rowlands (she only had two), Cicely Tyson (she only had one) or Laura Linney (she only had three. The same word cannot be said to Jessica Chastain. Although she’s >40 years old right now, she only started working in film when she’s thirty and her breakout role happened ten years ago. However, Kirsten Dunst can be called overdue. Why? She’s been working since 90s and hasn’t been recognized. It’s about the body of work and the length of the career, not always about how many nominations one can get. Saoirse Ronan is not overdue although she already have four now.
She won because of the legendary status of her parents who are going to die without Oscars. Dunst is only overdue for a nomination. Chastain isn’t overdue, but she’s given a win worthy performance and some good ones that could be termed snubs.
Andra Day should be winning Best Actress

February 28, 2021 at 6:21 pm #1204068935i was expecting daniel with a maybe for sacha if they really loved Chicago 7.
But Spotlight took Best Picture with only a 2nd Oscar for Writing, and unlike Chicago 7 didn’t win any Globes.
February 28, 2021 at 6:41 pm #1204069287Race is over: Kaluuya is sweeping.

Everybody goes home. My Kaluuya and Judas are coming to take its reward.

February 28, 2021 at 8:26 pm #1204071047After Globes Predictions
1. Daniel Kaluuya, Judas and the Black Messiah
2. Sacha Baron Cohen, The Trial of the Chicago 7
3. Leslie Odom Jr., One Night in Miami
4. Chadwick Boseman, Da 5 Bloods
5. David Strathairn, NomadlandFebruary 28, 2021 at 8:40 pm #1204071201This category is pretty much over. If Kaluuya won the most populist award in a film with visibility issues, he’s sweeping everything.

Nomadland is a BP frontrunner, Strathairn is a veteran, and a previous nominee. A surprise nomination could happen.
Raci might prevail despite a lack of precursor love too.

Apart from McDormand, he’s the only recognisable actor in the film that’s most likely to be the big winner on Oscar night – hence the assumption that he could coattail on his film.
