If Close really does end up missing then this is only good news for Zengel, Fishback, Lyonne, Burstyn and even my grandma Youn Yuh-jung. That being said HE is Close or bust at this point, but I think she will still end up getting in come March and if she gets in, I just can’t see her losing to Colman (again), Seyfried, or any of the other ladies I previously mentioned. If she gets in, I think she wins.

She’ll probably go the Hong Chau path. Getting nominations at the GG, CC and SAG but then gets snubbed for the Oscar (and BAFTA).

I agreed with you at some point, but I guess not anymore. HE’s reviews are really bad…
I believe the biggest difference between Close and Chau is that DOWNSIZING was a 46% at RT and she delivered a breakthrough performance (and DOWNSIZING had the prestige factor of competing for the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival). Close’s movie was a true letdown and since Netflix has so many cards to play this Oscar season, I believe they will put the HE card aside

I can’t with HE lol. Even 50 Shades of Grey got 25%
If this were a TV show, it would be season 8 of “Mahkween”.
The question is: Why agreeing doing this in the first place if these actresses wanted the gold?

    With a 20%? Really?

Glenn could still win for this role despite underwhelming reviews. Academy voters have a mind of their own. If the industry really wants to reward her, they will. 🤷🏾‍♂️

If she’s not winning then I hope she’s not nominated

She doesn’t deserve to go through another failed Oscar campaign. It would be too cruel

That performance was offensive. How Chau managed to get that far in an awful movie still amazes me.

If Glenn has no chance at winning then the Academy shouldn’t even bother nominating her.

Yeah, now that I think of it, Close could be snubbed since people may say “Why nominated her when she’s just gonna lose again?”. Sort of what some theorized with Adams missing out for Arrival.

Yea I agree. That’s why I think if she gets in, then she is winning.
