Saoirse and Kate are coming a la Mo’nique and Gabourey Sidibe. Can’t wait for Saoirse to get the sweep she deserves..

If there’s concrete proof of an upcoming Sunset Boulevard adaptation by the time voting starts, voters will feel less obliged to reward Close here if they can do so very soon in Lead in one of her most iconic roles. But there’ll need to be proof.

The thing is Sunset Blvd, if finally made, could end up being worse than Hillbilly Elegy. The Broadway adaptation didn’t get good reviews to begin with and its musical film will inevitably be compared to the 1950 version that many consider to be a masterpiece. So HE could be Glenn’s last chance.

However, it would be marvelous to see an actress they overlooked for so long winning two Oscars in a short period of time, and in her 70s no less. But for that to happen, assuming she wins for HE as expected, Sunset Blvd needs to be a really strong film, maybe like a top-tier BP nominee. It has potential to do well at the box office, but it won’t likely be a critical darling.

Does the HFPA give a damn about who has won before? I mean we’re talking about the same group that gave Helen Mirren and Kate Winslet two trophies in one night. Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams have both won back to back.

They can still give it to Glenn if they want to.

This race basically hinges on the reviews and reception for Hillbilly Elegy. If it’s a moderate-to-good or even poor but not terrible reception, I think Close is your clear winner and you could almost call the race there. If it’s panned, I think Seyfried wins. I have Seyfried winning in my predictions now as a considered punt (as much on HE’s quality than Mank’s) but I’ll instantly swap to Close if HE is anything above, say, 50/55 on Metacritic.

Considering the Broadway musical came out in mid 90s, were you planning to make in 80s via time machine?

God, when one has to explain the posts because people don’t know how to read. If Glenn didn’t win any of her lead nominations in the 80s, her chances are from slim to zero now. Sorry, but I can’t draw over here if you need something simpler.

What is the problem with posters this year?! They’re all awful. I haven’t seen a single one that had me wow. Mank one was good but nothing spectacular either.
