I find it hard to believe Mulan will be nominated for anything when it was such a flop in terms of sales and audience reception.

    https://seekingalpha.com/amp/article/4377117-disneys-mulan-estimates-crash-back-down-to-earth-losses-may-150-million

In light of Mulan’s relative failure on PVOD, it looks like Disney will not be releasing any more blockbusters in that format in the future.

This means that Soul will likely debut in theaters after all, since Disney clearly wants it to be their major Oscar player this season. This is a major risk that could pay off handsomly if audiences are ready to return to theaters and the Oscars embrace this film, or could backfire tremendously if Soul becomes Pixar’s third flop, after The Good Dinosaur and Onward, and fails to earn major nominations. A Pixar film hasn’t received more than two Oscar nominations since 2010, however, and no blockbuster this year since the COVID era has been profitable, so we’ll see how this goes.

I think Mank is getting all technical nominations excluding Visual Effects. In fact, it’s pretty possible it ends up being the most nominated film.

Either Mank or Chicago 7 I see being the most nominated film. It depends on how many acting noms each film gets.

FYC Oscars: Licorice Pizza (Best Picture, Best Director, Original Screenplay), The Mitchells vs The Machines (Best Picture, Animated Feature, Original Screenplay), Wes Anderson (Best Director), Denzel Washington (The Tragedy of MacBeth), Andrew Garfield and Robin de Jesus (Tick, Tick...BOOM!), Jayne Houdyshell (The Humans), Stephen Karam (Adapted Screenplay), Attica and Summer of Soul (Best Documentary)

FYC Razzies: Dear Evan Hansen (in all eligible categories)

Doesn’t mean much but here’s “The Soundtrack Song of 2020” at the E’s People’s Choice Awards (since it’s only a handful of ceremonies to give out award’s for film songs)

    THE SOUNDTRACK SONG OF 2020

    • About Love – Marina, To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You
    • Alexander Hamilton – Leslie Odom Jr., Hamilton
    • Boss Bitch – Doja Cat, Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of Harley Quinn
    • Loyal Brave True (From “Mulan”) – Christina Aguilera, Mulan
    • On Me – Thomas Rhett, Kane Brown, feat. Ava Max, Scoob!
    • Only the Young – Taylor Swift, Miss Americana
    • Rare – Selena Gomez, Normal People
    • The Other Side – SZA feat. Justin Timberlake, Trolls World Tour

Rare – Selena Gomez, Normal People

Selena Gomez sung a song for Normal People? As in the Irish miniseries? How did I not know this?

    FYC:

"The Good Fight", "The Other Two" and "Station Eleven" in all categories, Sarah Lancashire ("Julia"), William Jackson Harper ("Love Life") and Luke Kirby ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel")

I don’t think she sung it for the show, I think the show just put it in it’s soundtrack.

if I see mulan nominated anywhere in costume/production/makeup design I’ll probably have a meltdown, the whole thing reeks of orientalism

This article pretty much confirms that Mulan on Disney Plus was a flop, and they won’t do this again. I think they’re trying to test the waters to see if it can do well on other platforms. If it does, then Soul may release on VOD after all.

Sound of Metal missing a Sound nomination when it’s one of the baitiest contenders in that category would be laughable.
