If Reznor and Ross win it will definetely be for Mank. Did you hear the score in that trailer? Incredible!

Even in their heydey, Pixar only won Score once, for Up. I still think they could be snubbed, especially since Inside Out had the best score of 2015 and missed out.

If you’re talking about the ‘Reddit trailer’ with the operatic aria, that’s diegetic music from Bernard Herrmann’s score for Citizen Kane, although the excerpt is taken from a more recent performance of it. Not that that means I’m not predicting the Mank score to get in.

Edit: Actually that might have been part of Reznor and Ross’s score in the official trailer. I had forgotten.

An even more apt comparison would be Coco which also had a musical theme yet still didn’t gain much traction in the score category, though it did win for Original Song.

I didn’t see the Reddit trailer, I saw the official one on Netflix’s YouTube channel. And I’m pretty sure that was Reznor and Ross’s score, though I could be wrong.

Roald Dahl’s The Witches releasing on HBO Max

I know this won’t be eligible for the Oscars (unless there’s some limited theatrical release I don’t know of), but those are some really cool effects. Frankly, I doubt any of the real contenders are even going to be half as impressive.

The thing I am most looking forward to about the crafts categories is the prospect of Oscar Nominee Sonic The Hedgehog.

    For Your Consideration:

    Best Picture: Wolfwalkers

    Best Animated Feature: Wolfwalkers

Wait, it won’t? Doesn’t a streaming release mean it’s eligible when it was supposed to be in theaters? (Btw, here in Germany it actually will be)

Okay yeah you’re right, I should have said I’m not sure if it will be eligible because I wasn’t aware it was a planned theatrical release. If they submit I’m gonna predict it because makeup/VFX is pretty empty and I really like what they did here lol.

The fact everybody at Next Hest Picture whom is predicting “Husavik” doesn’t know it’s actual title is hilarious.

I’m also starting to wonder if Bad Boys for Life has a shot at Visual Effects. It is the highest grossing film of the year in the states and got good reviews. Oscar-nominated Bad Boys for Life and Sonic the Hedgehog would be so funny.

Oh, and Birds of Prey will probably get a Makeup nom.

I think Visual Effects could be cut down to a three-nom category this year. I’m struggling to whip up five contenders. At this point I’m assuming it’s The Midnight Sky v Tenet, with Birds of Prey in a distant third.

I’m starting to think Emma. may land a few more nominations than expected. I’m not sure they thought it would even be in the Oscar race, but I can see it in contention for Make-Up, Costume, Production Design and it could even land Score (the music is by Isobel Waller-Bridge, Phoebe’s sister, which could… well, help). It may end up being a 4-5 nom film.

I agree. A lot more people saw it than expected when it had its cinema release never mind when it was released on home video during the pandemic.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

Actually The Eight Hundred is the highest grossing movie of the year, and it came out less than 3 months ago
