I’m kinda really disappointed at the winners. I mean it was pretty predictable, but what made it worse was that last year’s winners felt like such inspiring picks. We had Yuh Jung Youn (soooo happy that she won), Sir Anthony Hopkins (in an upset), The Father (kinda an upset too), Promising Young Woman, Chloe Zhao sweeping, and Frances in actress. I thought the Academy that actually nominated Drive My Car in BP and BD would have such inspiring picks too this year.
Tbh I will never understand how CODA won adapted screenplay. It’s a nice, feel good movie, which I love, but how could it win over Drive My Car, which was adapted from a short story into a beautiful complex movie, or Dune, which was long considered ‘unadaptable’.
Anyway, that’s my rant. This is my first post lol. Been lurking on here quite a long time, I love reading all your thoughts.

This. I hope he’s all right and that he will press charges.

March 27, 2022 at 9:28 pm #1204884183Will smith has every right to defend his wife after chris tried to make a mockery of her baldness (bcs of her serious case of hair loss). Will knows his wife more than any of you and he wouldnt have done this unless he knew exactly how hurt jada felt.
Willow (their daughter) shaved her head in solidarity with jada and this journey. Her as a black woman in media already leads her to be judged and mocked and there has already been so many disrespectful comments about her looks.
Will knew he messed up and of course hes gonna address it in his speech. He deserved his win and none of this erases his 30 years of service to hollywood. Chris and him will most likely talk it out.
But please, save the “ghetto” and disrespectful comments because youre just showing how racist you are.

The sci fi series that Dune is based on was largely considered unadaptable because of how complex it was but not only did Denis Villeneuve had the balls to adapt it, he also did it EXCEEDINGLY well. I don’t think we’ll ever have a better Dune adaption so it’s loss in this category is a huge snub for me. CODA’s screenplay doesn’t hold a candle to Dune or DMC or TPOTD for that matter.

But the joke was scripted… it’s not like he came up with it. I mean he did go ahead with it but Will’s anger was misdirected and utterly violent. You can’t just go around smacking people because they made a joke. A line has to be drawn somewhere.
Words should be fought with words.

March 27, 2022 at 9:33 pm #1204884225poor Netflix .. like damn.. beat to first streamer Best Picture by Apple, who’ve only been around a couple years. I know it stings.
First Hulu (Drama Series), Amazon (Comedy Series), and now .. Best Picture.
and both Roma and The Power of the Dog lost to crowd-pleasing, non-director nominated films, THE GAG
They obviously need to stop playing the Oscar Game so hard, or just pick the films they are pushing more strategically.
They REALLY need to just put out a high quality heartwarming, crowd-leasing, family friendly film and hope for the best.
They struck out with their previous “cinematic achievements” such as Roma, The Irishman, Mank, and now The Power of the Dog, which were all deemed frontrunners at some point.
Maybe they should’ve put more energy into the Marriage Story, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Don’t Look Up, and tick, tick…BOOM! type films instead

You cannot walk on stage and slap someone like that. Have a conversation, release a statement. It is never acceptable to get violent like that.
