SAG loved Don’t Look Up to nominate it in ensemble, but not enough to nominate any of the individual actors despite the whole movie being SAG bait. Not sure if Leo stands a chance to be nominated at the Oscars anymore. Bardem is definitely a dark horse for the 5th slot now that Kidman is the frontrunner for Best Actress.

    Michelle Williams Oscar campaign manager.

    FYC:
Picture: Drive My Car, The Power of the Dog, Licorice Pizza, Spencer, C'mon C'mon

Actor: Benedict Cumberbatch, Joaquin Phoenix. Hidetoshi Nishijima
    Actress: Kristen Stewart, Alana Haim
Supporting Actress: Kirsten Dunst, Ruth Negga, Cate Blanchett, Ariana DeBose
    Supporting Actor: Kodi Smit-McPhee

Leo is done. If Bardem is just a SAG thing, Dinklage is getting nominated instead. Cyrano is a late breaker after all.

This might just come down to who has the better campaign behind them for the 5th slot. Cyrano might be coming in too late, and the BTR campaign is pretty strong for both Kidman and Bardem.

Dinklage shouldn’t have missed SAG of all places.

Everybody joked but what if Bardem getting the fifth slot actually happens.

I’d say Leo is done but he never even started. I’ve been saying.

I still don’t believe that Bardem will be the fifth nominee. I might regret it, but I’ll still bet on Dinklage or maybe DiCaprio.

In the case of Dinklage, I got the impression that releasing Cyrano so late wasn’t a good idea.

I Just can’t put Bardem in – it’s just too odd a choice! But he got both GG and SAG! I just don’t know what to do with the fifth slot – maybe Nishijima can get a super surprise nomination?

Yeah, as soon as they announced the very limited theatre showing in December and delaying the larger release I knew it was going to cause problems. It’s like they overestimated word of mouth buzz, but they needed eyes on the movie.

Bardem was, excuse my language, dogshit in BTR so I would absolutely take an 87th Leo nomination if that’s what it takes to leave him out at the Oscars.

This reasoning makes no sense. SAG was supposed to love Dinklage, and he missed. His movie is also not getting a lot of eyes on it. Don’t Look up performed very well on the bafta shortlists and Bardem is the lead actor in the movie Kidman is gonna sweep for. It’s between those two. I still have a feeling the academy will love DLU and it’ll overperform on nomination day. How Joaquin Phoenix is getting no pub for Cmon Cmon in this weak category is beyond me

This is more of Smith vs. Garfield than Smith vs. Cumberbatch, I think.
