Great list but I think the order of your 5-10 are a bit wacky. Definitely agree with all them being contenders though.

September 7, 2021 at 9:00 pm #1204443368Gotta say: I feel a little bad for Cumberbatch 🙁
Kirsten Dunst told an interviewer about some deleted scenes. Unrelatedly, one of the things I found out that is immensely interesting to me is how the movie at some point becomes about Peter (Smit-McPhee).
To a degree this happens in the book too, but the book never becomes about him, it stays with who Phil & Rose are, but Peter’s actions sort of illustrates who they are. To change that is…well, it’s a helluva lot of faith to put in such a young actor but clearly he pulled it off so well I think he’s detracting from Cumberbatch :/
Plemons would never because his character would never lol. I dunno. I kinda like that idea Campion had. It probably illustrates a good deal about Phil & Rose anyway, while letting a young actor shine!
Also he’s gotten so much flack, poor guy. I get the casting decision 100% even without the film, like I GET it: in a weird way, he’s who Phil really is. And he’s been so kind and thoughtful in press. Unlike MCU stuff where he comes off as more than a bit arrogant, he comes off so sweet & goofy here.
Justice for Passing, Tessa Thompson & Ruth Negga.
The Power of the Dog / Jane Campion / Benedict Cumberbatch / Kristen Stewart / Kirsten Dunst / Troy Kotsur

How so
(also why did I just randomly think of Thandiwe Newton’s performance in Line of Duty season 4 as soon as you said “wacky” lmao)?September 7, 2021 at 11:13 pm #12044434831. Will Smith, King Richard 2. No no no, Kaziz. We can only have one (1) newcomer nominee. This is apparently a very strict rule.

I’d think this was a really refreshing experience for him, and I have been trying to avoid spoiling myself but with all the passion for how juicy and rich this role is I’m surprised to see his co-stars pulling as much of the stage as they have. I guess this explains it.
I still think he and Smith are very neck and neck right now, though. It’s unfortunate Louis Wain doesn’t seem like it will really be giving him the helpful boost I, at least, anticipated though.
