It wasn’t embarrassing because he deserved to win that year. Malek was good, but Cooper truly deserved that Oscar. I don’t know what he did to deserve all the hate he gets on this forum

    Dafoe is there, darling!

My ranking out of the nominees would be

    1. Willem Dafoe
    2. Viggo Mortensen
    3. Bradley Cooper
    4. Christian Bale
    5. Rami Malek

"The Lost Daughter" in every eligible category - Film
"Succession" Season 3 in every eligible category - TV
"Heaux Tales" by Jasmine Sullivan in every eligible category - Music

Jones’s film Nitram has no set US distributor or release date yet, and after its skipping of all the fall fests I’m fairly confident it won’t be part of this awards season. I think both Collins Jr. and Rex will strongly challenge Smith, Washington, Phoenix, Dinklage and Cumberbatch for critics’ prizes, and we will see if either can build momentum. I believe Collins will be a prime beneficiary of such attention, with Sony Classics guiding the way along the path to the Oscars. I’ve been sticking with Collins for months for a nom and see no reason to change horses now.

I get that, but considering how split the critics’ awards will likely be between Washington, Cumberbatch, Smith, Collins, Rex, Isaac, Phoenix & Dinklage, I doubt Collins & Rex will be able to build enough momentum to make it to the Oscar race.

Not to mention Simon Rex has a pretty major disadvantage in that older and more prudish voters will probably be put off by Red Rocket’s subject matter. I would guess a comedy Globe nod will be the best Rex can hope for, and he might not even get that.

I also forgot about Oscar Isaac (his Gotham nomination reminded me), but I would probably group him in with Rex & Collins. The main advantage he has over those two is that he’s a bigger name, but I still doubt very many voters will watch The Card Counter, and even fewer will like it.

I mean, Julianne Moore and Burt Reynolds got nominated for Boogie Nights 25 years ago, so it’s not a matter of prudishness.

Yeah, the Gotham noms have me interested to see how the critics awards go. We might actually see results really split without anyone getting that critical darling title. Instead the wealth might be spread among like 4 or 5 of these guys?

Surprised by Clifton Collins’ snub, though. That doesn’t bode well when he really needs a critic boost and I thought he’d be a shoe in here, but who knows.

In my view,  it’s not just that Isaac, and Dinklage for that matter, are “bigger” names– they are also both widely respected for their body of work. It’s an uphill battle for either one to get nominated but I think their chances are notably higher than Rex’s or Collins’.

I mean, Julianne Moore and Burt Reynolds got nominated for Boogie Nights 25 years ago, so it’s not a matter of prudishness.

Boogie Nights also grossed almost $75 million adjusted for inflation. I highly doubt Red Rocket will be that much of a hit, and when Oscar voters are looking for films to watch, a lot of them probably won’t be inclined to watch the movie about a retired porn star who dates a 17-year-old starring a former MTV VJ. Not saying that’s as it should be, just saying we shouldn’t discount that as a potential factor.

Uhh…you probably shouldn’t call Peter Dinklage that.

I didn’t mean it in a demeaning way. Just pointing out facts. I want him nominated alongside Kevin Harrison Jr in supporting cos they look good in that trailer

    Laga Gaga for Best Actress.

House of Gucci for best picture.

Belfast for everything - Best Picture win

Please do not refer to Peter Dinklage as that word. People with dwarfism prefer terms like “person with dwarfism”, “person of short stature”, or “little person”.

I’m sorry. That wasn’t my intention. I’ve edited my comment

    Laga Gaga for Best Actress.

House of Gucci for best picture.

Belfast for everything - Best Picture win

Smith has this. Watch the enw trailer. The movie is going to get BP and that’s a requirement for Actor win.

I think a KR best pic nom has long been v close to a sure bet.

Does anyone think Adam Driver might not get nominated at all this season? He’s fantastic in Annette and deserves to be in the awards conversation for it, but AMPAS probably won’t nominate him for it. I don’t see him getting in for HoG unless he receives the kind of acclaim he got for Marriage Story.

I think Simon Rex is exactly the kind of actor/performance that might sneak into BAFTA with the new jury…

Yeah. Buzz for Annette hasn’t sustained. And where Gotham may not be an AMPAS predicator, it at least indicates independent and critic voter passions and if he isn’t even cracking there, I don’t see a chance as there is no active push from the studio either. And Gucci seems like an entirely Gaga vehicle.

I agree. It seemed impossible a couple of months ago, but now it’s obvious after “Annette” failed to wow the majority of audience and “The Last Duel” tanked at the box office. “House of Gucci” will be Lady Gaga’s time to shine.
