Garfield’s appearance on Colbert has been blowing up on twitter, I honestly think he can make it if Netflix gives him the backing:
If Gardfield gets in, DiCaprio is out, i don’t think they’re gonna nominated three actors from Netflix, one must be sacrifice and I’m afraid it will be Gardfield.
November 23, 2021 at 11:34 am #1204600426What Garfield said on Colbert was absolutely stunning. And I honestly could not agree more with it.

Damn, that was beautiful.

If it was an Amazon property or an Apple TV property, it would 100% get into Actor.
However, Netflix knows that there is a chance that Power of the Dog and Don’t Look Up could win Best Picture. Something which is never going to happen with Tick, Tick… Boom!
On a different note, though, what happens in this category if neither King Richard or The Power Of The Dog do that well on Oscar morning. (Not that it is likely, but it isn’t implausible. This year’s Oscars are in a pretty big state of flux.) If that happens, who wins?
November 23, 2021 at 1:50 pm #1204601140With actor it seems obvious that we have 4 locks for nominations: Cumberbatch, DiCaprio, Smith, and Washington Bardem, Cooper, Dinklage, Garfield, and Phoenix battling for that 5th spot
Is Washington really a lock?

Excerpt:
I bring [Andrew Garfield] up because I believe one contender whose positioning he might have particularly affected is Peter Dinklage. Can two bighearted musical turns find their way into this category? Honestly, it feels unlikely, and while Dinklage made a splash when Cyrano debuted to strong reactions in the Rockies, it’s a smaller movie less likely to be broadly admired, with a quiet late-December opening that will not work in its favor as the race takes shape.
He remains one to keep an eye on—he’s beloved in this town and has never been nominated for an Oscar—but he’s at risk of fading from the conversation, if he hasn’t already.
Still more likely, if also in a similar kind of danger, is Denzel Washington. When The Tragedy of Macbeth premiered in New York, reactions indicated he’d be a slam dunk here.
In the time since, two things have become clear: This is not a film the Academy will embrace wholeheartedly, and its experimental nature will prove challenging for general audiences.
Washington is terrific, though, and we may be underestimating his standing. After all, this is the guy who got nominated for Roman J. Israel, Esq. just a few years ago.

Do they mention Driver? (Seems like you have to subscribe to see the full article). I’m very skeptical of his awards chances for HoG. If people weren’t cowards, he would be high up in predictions for Annette.

I especially like your passion for TLD, as I quite enjoyed that film myself. But honey, respectively, Adam Driver isn’t happening for any Oscars next year. He honestly should get a Razzie nom for TLD and Gucci. You’re better off rooting for Comer.
Yeah I know it’s unlikely he’ll get in for TLD, but I thought he was great in Annette. I’m definitely rooting for Comer. She was great in the film. Driver was barely mentioned by critics, while she and Affleck got all the raves. The same situation is happening with HoG, with Gaga and I guess Leto to an extent getting praised.

Adam Driver is too understated in House of Gucci to make a run on his own, but a surge of popularity behind the bulky drama could welcome him into contention.

I’m getting dragged for watching the movie online leaked, but I will see it in theaters and likely still feel the same way about Leto. Let me know how you feel.
I’ll definitely let you know. I can’t with Leto calling his performance a love letter to Italy when it seems to be an offensive caricature.
