    How is he the frontrunner when he’s 1 for 10 so far? Each day Cumberbatch is looking more and more like the frontrunner.

    Industry awards are different than critics prizes. It is often the case that the performer who wins the most critics prizes does not win a the industry awards, and sometimes doesn’t even get nominated (Ethan Hawke and Lupita N’yong’o did great a few years ago with the critics and weren’t nominated for the Oscar). But I hope Cumberbatch wins and not Smith.

    I know I am the only one but I loved Adam Driver’s performance in House of Gucci – preferred it to Will Smith’s merely competent performance that’s for certain.

    I am hoping Ansel Elgort gets a GG nomination (comedy or musical) today. He is much better than he is being give credit for with his performance. His singing, dancing and acting are all amazing in West Side Story.

    I expect Anthony Ramos to make it in to the GG’s as well.

    The problem for me is that I still haven’t seen so many of the potential nominees. They are all opening within the next 3-4 weeks here. Still haven’t seen Andrew Garfield, Denzel Washington, Peter Dinklage, Bradley Cooper (seeing NA on Thursday), Leonardo DiCaprio, Simon Rex…

    @FreemanGriffin

    Yes that is true, but normally even the televised award winners have at least a few critic wins under their belt before GG, SAG, BAFTA. And Oscars. Will Smith only having NBR at this point is pause for concern, but yes I agree that it normally doesn’t matter.

    I would like for it to matter since I definitely prefer Benedict Cumberbatch to Will Smith!!!! (;

    Benedict takes Phoenix. They love Belfast and Dune though.

    Well the Globes didn’t rock the boat on expectations, though Bardem can’t be counted out.

    Yep. Ali will be out to make room for Garfield (projected C/M winner) most likely. Cumby-Smith-Washongton stay. Garfield in. Bardem stays by coattailing Kidman (likelier) or makes room for Leo or Dinklage (less so). Leo would be the 3rd Netflix actor which is unlikely. Dinklage movie doesn’t have that much traction outside of his performance.

    Yeah, it’s SO bizarre I hafta say! No Phoenix, no Rex, no Collins Jr. (I mean wins) in the CRITICS awards???

    At this point I’m wondering if that first time nominee can really be Hidetoshi Nishijima… because who else do we have?!

    Justice for Passing, Tessa Thompson & Ruth Negga.

    The Power of the Dog / Jane Campion / Benedict Cumberbatch / Kristen Stewart / Kirsten Dunst / Troy Kotsur
