How can you say they are stronger when you haven’t even seen these movies yet ? Balfe was praised in the Belfast reviews.

How can we make predictions unseen? Welcome to the predictions forum in September!

Great, the other women were praised too. Stewart has unparalleled raves and Cruz has gotten career-best reviews. Colman has also strong reviews and she’s a popular name. Balfe could take spot #4 as of right now. With numerous other women to come. Which means she really has to put up a fight to happen. Chastain, Gaga, Kidman, Thompson, Comer, Berry, Hudson…etc. Bigger names. Actual leading roles (not just co-lead in an ensemble piece). This is going to be a strong year.

    FYC 2022 Emmys:

Best Actress in a Drama Series: Sandra Oh in "Killing Eve"

Best Actress in a Comedy Series: Sandra Oh in "The Chair"

Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Kim Joo-ryoung in "Squid Game"

This happens every year. By December most of these names will have flopped or underperformed.

Balfe’s possibilities of getting nominated will depend on Focus Features and how big of a contender Belfast will be.

NGL, Balfe giving me strong Thomasin McKenzie in Jojo Rabbit vibes. Borderline supporting-lead in a coming of age crowdpleaser from prestigious arthouse studio with a big name in “Clear” Supporting role (Johansson and Dench, respectively). Too small/little screentime to go lead but too much for supporting and possibly gets snubbed for a bigger namecheck in the same movie (Dench)

FYC-Nightmare Alley in All Categories (Best Picture, Guillermo Del Toro for Best Director, Bradley Cooper for Best Actor, Cate Blanchett for Best Actress, Rooney Mara for Best Supporting Actress, Richard Jenkins for Best Supporting Actor)

FYC-Last Night in Soho (Edgar Wright for Best Director, Thomasin McKenzie for Best Actress, Anya Taylor Joy for Best Supporting Actress, Edgar Wright and Krysty Wilson Cairns for Best Original Screenplay)

I think Ciarán Hinds has the best shot at a nomination out of the “Belfast” cast. By the way, the spelling and pronunciation of Irish names is driving me crazy. Do you pronounce Ciarán like Kieran?

Ciarán is traditionally pronounced “KEER-ahn”, but he himself pronounces it exactly the way you spelled it (KEER-in). Also, just some more information regarding the names of the Irish contenders, Caitriona Balfe is pronounced “kuh-TREE-nuh balf” (the ‘al’ is pronounced the same as it would be in a word like ‘malpractice’).

I believe Kenneth Branagh’s last name is pronounced “BRAN-uh”, as well; rhymes with the name ‘Hannah’.

    FYC -
    • The Power of the Dog - All categories, especially Picture/Director/Adapted Screenplay (Jane Campion), Best Supporting Actress (Kirsten Dunst), Best Supporting Actor (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Best Cinematography (Ari Wegner)
    • Passing - Best Actress (Tessa Thompson), Best Supporting Actress (Ruth Negga)
    • The Lost Daughter in all categories, especially Picture/Director/Adapted Screenplay (Maggie Gyllenhaal), Best Actress (Olivia Colman), and Best Supporting Actress (Jessie Buckley)
