Colman’s film won screenplay at Venice, thereby precluding her from winning Actress. She was previously seen on shakier ground cause her film was allegedly “challenging”. Now that her film won screenplay, she’s still on shakier ground lol. Also everybody kept repeating she won’t win Volpi so soon after winning just 3 years ago, not sure why that narrative has suddenly changed.

    this!

also some of you literally LOVE discrediting pcruz’s very deserving win just because your fave and their film couldn’t win anything there. there is fr no need to be so butthurt

The best we can hope for is King Richard level reviews. A september release and only a tiff festival presence doesn’t indicate good things.

It’s pretty obvious some of the recent accounts on here were all created by the same person. Whoever  created them keeps repeating the same comments. Anyway, have the reactions for The Eyes of Tammy Faye dropped?

Personally the depth of the field would make me most anxious about their chances. I think Stewart is safe, and the raves for Colman and Cruz (plus the Volpi for the latter, of course) give them a really good chance, but there’s so many contenders here that we’d be getting ahead of ourselves to say three of them were safe. We still haven’t seen McDormand, Blanchett, Kidman, Chastain and Gaga and the likes of Balfe and Reinsve have already received similar raves.

Um… what depth? Quantity of contenders =/= quality of performances. Do I think all of the people you mentioned have a shot at a nom? Sure. But I don’t see THREE of them having a better performance than Colman (I’m using her as she seems to be the third best of the trio). You have Balfe and Blanchett and McDormand who could be supporting roles, Reinsve who is in a foreign language film (don’t say anything about Cruz, she is an A-list actress despite her foreign status with three Oscar nominations and a win, she is an exception), Chastain and Gaga who WILL be campy (not necessarily bad), and Kidman who could either be out-of-this-world overdue thespian or classic Kidman (good performance, gets in some precursors, but misses a la Destroyer, Boy Erased, The Paperboy, Cold Mountain, To Die For, and a handful of others).

    Oscars FYC:
Belfast (Pic, Balfe, Dornan, Hinds, Screenplay)
    CODA (Kotsur, Screenplay)
Dune (Pic, Villeneuve, Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Sound, VFX)
    Free Guy (VFX)
    Passing (Negga)
The Power of the Dog (Pic, Campion, Cumberbatch, Dunst, Smit-McPhee, Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing)
    tick, tick, Boom! (Garfield)
West Side Story (Pic, Spielberg, Zegler, DeBose, Moreno, Faist, Screenplay, Cinematography, Costume, Editing, Production Design, Sound)

Olive Coleman makes me think about that scene in “Sophie’s Choice” where Meryl Streep goes to the library and asks for a book by [do Polish accent] “American poet Emile Dickens”… 😂
