    I think there are blurry lines between Unlikeable character or downright subpar performance. In some case, if the chatacter is unlikeable because its written on purpose (Cassie Thomas, Amy Dunne and Mildred Hayes) and you disliked their characters bcs of that, that means they excels in their roles. And then there’s unlikability because of the performance itself (Not Actress performance, but Anakin in Star Wars prequel came to mind)

    Magidson’s comment feel somewhat contradictive. He mixed on the movie bcs of unlikability of the characters yet praised the acting.

    FYC:
    Best Director: Edgar Wright, Guillermo Del Toro, Jane Campion
    Best Picture: Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog
    Best Actress: Kristen Stewart, Thomasin McKenzie, Rooney Mara, Tessa Thompson
    Best Actor: Benedict Cumberbatch, Bradley Cooper
    Best S. Actress: Cate Blanchett, Diana Rigg, Anya Taylor Joy
    Best S. Actor: Kodi Smit McPhee, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins

    Unlikeable character as intended vs unlikable character because of actor/acting choices.  Yes.

    Olivia is unlikable in The Lost Daughter because what she does is seen as unredeemable and unforgivable by another female character. And that character’s reaction is so strong there’s no doubt that she didn’t forgive and most likely the audience isn’t supposed to do either no matter what psychological “complexity” led to unlikable, unforgivable action.

    Gotham Shmotham. There’s desperation and there’s taking Gotham as an indicator for things to come.

    Sucks that Kristen isn’t nominated so we could see if she could really beat out Olivia etc.. So when does award season really kick off? What’s the first award show? Besides Gotham obv.

    I don’t know what it is about Best Actress in particular that turns us all into petty little queens, but I don’t like it. None of us here actually know what we’re talking about, we’re just guessing for fun. Nothing wrong with that.

    Stewart will be awarded with a special award by Gotham, along with Campion, the whole cast of The Harder They Fall, and film exec Eamonn Bowles.

    From the variety gotham piece;

    “The Power of the Dog,” “tick, tick…Boom!” and “The Harder They Fall,” were among the films not eligible for awards — nominees had to have budgets under $35 million.  That kept other awards season favorites such as “The Tragedy of Macbeth,”  “King Richard,” “The French Dispatch,”  and “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” out of contention.

    How did Tammy Faye cost more than 35 million!
