Fyi bruised and halle still trending on and off twitter today and even before the afi premiere. The movie might be cliched for some people lol but for the regular movie fans. Regular folks haven’t seen woman of color sports movie.
November 27, 2021 at 8:22 am #1204609143Bruised is pretty good. The movie is far from perfect but Halle definitely gave everything she had in that performance, both physically and emotionally
I don’t see how this goes further than a Globe sneak (though I could see a SAG nom too since they supported her in the past) but this is easily her best performance
FYC
Best Actress - Pénélope Cruz, Olivia Colman
Best Actor - Denzel Washington
Best Supporting Actress - Aunjanue Ellis, Kathryn Hunter
November 27, 2021 at 8:28 am #1204609148Some praise for Alana Haim in Licorice Pizza: Roger Ebert: Haim is just a flat-out movie star. She has that “thing”: that radiant, magnetic charisma that makes it impossible to take your eyes off her. NPR: A revelation here, with a radiant star-is-born aura that hooks you the moment she first appears. Consequence of Sound: It’s the kind of star power we saw in a young Barbara Streisand. Slash Film: Without the slightest trace of hyperbole: she’s a star. That this is Haim’s feature acting debut is staggering-it’s almost unbelievable she could waltz onto a movie screen for the first time and be this good, but she is. Hollywood Reporter: Haim makes one of the most exciting screen debuts in recent memory. ABC News: Haim also drives the movie in a performance of such brash, buoyant naturalness and emotional nuance that her film debut is one for the ages. Source: haimsource on Twitter
and some people are still doubting her.

I really gather that most people don’t understand how academy voting works, and the pundits choices reflect that of the average movie goer so it’s a problem when you are trying to explain why a actress that performed in a 56% rotten score film can be nominated and win over a actress that is in a film with a 90% or 80+ rating because they’re lead to believe the films quality affects Consideration for acting categories.
November 27, 2021 at 8:43 am #1204609186MGM/UAR’s House of Gucci, the other wide entry of the holiday, made $5.7M yesterday, +69% from Thanksgiving, which now puts its 3-day at $14.9M and 5-day at $22.5M. Close to 40% of the audience said they came out for Lady Gaga, while 32% cited the ensemble cast overall of Adam Driver, Al Pacino and Jared Leto while 34% were intrigue by the Gucci family murder plot.

He has her at #8
November 27, 2021 at 8:44 am #1204609190I think Berry can def still happen at SAG. At the same time, actress is getting so crowded that egregious snubs are inevitable. The only two that feel safe-ish across the board (excluding BAFTA) are Stewart and Kidman. I would be shocked if either one missed any of CC, GG and SAG. Seems highly, highly unlikely.

interesting. Maybe Gaga’s fanbase is way more diverse than the stereotypical belief that its mostly “the gays”. Older people love Gaga.

November 27, 2021 at 8:53 am #1204609206The irony of that deadline article about the theatres polling data, Licorice Pizza 87% positive, HoG 82% positive, you’d expect the MC score to be close, but it’s like an ocean apart lol.

They’re not “stans”. They’re just old people that she picked up with ASIB. They don’t necessarily listen to her music or anything.

Having Tessa Thompson so low is insulting.
