I think they don’t view her as the frontrunner. I mean Colman is #1 in the odds here. But I agree, it’s kinda weird that even with KS’ collapse, Kidman is still not winning a single regional. Like every other contender managed to win a few, I think even Renate won one lol? And I sort of can see why, for me until Kidman gets a BAFTA nomination, it’s hard to consider her a frontrunner especially if Colman makes it there.
They know she’s the frontrunner, but they attempt to sway the voting by giving the awards to other contenders. It is the hope game.
Will Smith was rewarded for exceeding everyone's expectations in endearing violent traits. Shame on the Academy!
January 25, 2022 at 2:09 pm #1204748791..and it basically the worst movie out of all BA contenders… also viewers just simply hate it on RT and Meta
no kidding.

January 25, 2022 at 2:10 pm #1204748794Are Renate Reinsve’s chances so low? I got a certa in feeling she might come up with a nod, especially if the movie gets something in the international field.
Reinsve doesn’t really have a path for industry attention. Cruz at least has a studio campaigning hard for her even if they were late to the game, and Parallel Mothers has Almodóvar behind it and its score getting attention.

Lmao for a second I thought she was talking about her SAG nomination reaction with Kristen Stewart until I noticed the slight difference in the outfit between the first link and the third. Imagine how awkward that would be.

I doubt they will touch that,I think Stewart is more nervous at this phase, since she was never nominated before and the SAG snub could have upset her. Nicole sent flowers after the call, I kinda feel many people at least want her to get nominated. All this campaign and the festivals since summer for Spencer and no nom would be not a good look.
January 25, 2022 at 3:09 pm #1204748868The critics’ awards odyssey has been interesting, to say the least. The critics rallied around Stewart at first. After Stewart started floundering, they started rallying around Colman. Is it them trying to predict the Oscar winner or them legitimately being more impressed by Olivia’s performance than they were with K-Stew’s?
It could really be due to either reason. I know it’s easy to jump on critics for wanting to influence the Oscar race, and that might be it or at least part of it. However, I think people are forgetting that The Lost Daughter just came out on Netflix less than a month ago. I don’t know how many of these regional critics would have had access to showings or screeners of this film prior to that Netflix release. Its theatrical release was extremely tiny. I believe that part of the reason that this switch happened in January is because more critics actually got to see Olivia’s performance.

Possible. But there were 10 regionals that announced between TLD’s release (31st of Dec) and SAG/BAFTA day (Jan 12th). Olivia won only one of them (SF), despite being consistently nominated.
One could argue that they took weeks to watch TLD after release, but the argument is also far-fetched for me. First, it’s on Netflix, much more accessible than theatrical releases. Second, it’s a BP and BA contending movie. I find it hard to believe that it’d be low priority on their to-watch-list. And this is kinda their job, to watch and review new releases.
So obviously not all critics have these motives, but the numbers really show that’s a sudden switch after SAG.

She’s my personal winner but girl has basically no shot. Neon handled the movie in a very bad way, they barely campaigned her (they put everything behind Stewart) and she’s a foreign actress in a breakthrough role. If she had a studio like Netflix or Amazon behind her, her chances probably would’ve been a thousand times better. Sadly, she’s not happening. It is what it is.

Meanwhile, she’s unbothered, booked and busy. She worked on Marvel’s Secret Invasion and Wonka, and is currently prepping for Empire of Light with Sam Mendes.
An Oscar winner in Lead in her very first Oscar nomination. Only 7* women in the 21st century can claim that recognition, and one of them is The talented Olivia.
