Plus she’s clearly not doing this for awards, she campaigns the least of anyone. The Lost Daughter was carried as a contender on the back of her performance. She’s not taking huge baity roles, she’s just good enough that her roles become contenders every time.
Want Want by Maggie Rogers - Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Music Video, Best Country Song, Best Melodic Rap Performance, Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best Country Solo Performance, Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Metal Performance, Best Rock Song, Best American Roots Performance
February 6, 2022 at 4:24 pm #1204780636not people calling THE LOST DAUGHTER “Oscar bait” 💀 i think TLD can’t fall into that category because it’s really an original film (based on authentic material) with a very difficult lead role to act and make people care. olivia ate that up. and thanks to the visibility of netflix (who only acquired the film after it was finished) and venice the film (and her) are in the Oscar discussion. there’s nothing wrong with that, in my view.
it’s not her fault that she keeps delivering brilliant performances in the most diverse media and with roles totally different from the others…

and netflix.
but i agree Olivia is very lowkey on going out there for these campaigns, which doesn’t hurt since she has an acclaimed performance on her hands and lucky that good distributors picked her.
February 6, 2022 at 4:39 pm #1204780674As much as I like Olivia Colman, can she do a project that’s not Oscar bait?
Huh? TLD is not Oscar bait. Let’s not forget Colman is competing against 4 actor Oscar bait performances all in biopics.

I would say 2: Chastain and Kidman (not counting Hudson since she’s unlikely)
Gaga’s character is an unlikeable convicted murderer. I don’t think it’s exactly Oscar bait. Best Actress performances like these tend to lose actually.
And Kristen’s portrayal of Princess Diana is too provocative and imaginary to be considered Oscar bait. And it’s exactly why she’s underperforming.
I think for me previous Oscar bait performances are like Judy, The Iron Lady, the kind of traditional safe takes on beloved icons, and obviously the likeability of the character plays a major role in why they win.

February 6, 2022 at 4:56 pm #1204780725I can’t believe some film twitter people are predicting Chastain and KStew over Colman. But that’s not gonna happen lol. She’s not missing. If she made SAG of all places, over much more SAG-baity performances, the Oscars are for sure nominating her. Her missing BAFTA only confirms that she’s not top 2. It doesn’t mean that she’s not close.
February 6, 2022 at 4:58 pm #1204780731Older generations love her. And they make up the majority of the voters, so…
February 6, 2022 at 4:59 pm #1204780737Yikes, Margaret Thatcher, a beloved icon!!!!??? She’s one of the most hated politicians in modern history.

lets not exaggerate pls
February 6, 2022 at 5:02 pm #1204780756The most Oscar designed performance this year is Jessica Chastain in the Tammy Faye, it has all these Oscar cliches. Voice alteration or accents is liked by voters, Gaga Italian accent, Kidman cigarette voice, Chastain chipmunk voice etc.
February 6, 2022 at 5:07 pm #1204780773Yes, Thatcher was evil as fuck, but some people really loved that woman for breaking the ceiling and shit. It is what it is.
And I don’t think Gaga’s Patrizia is portrayed as a psycho or absolutely awful. The real person sure is, but the character from the movie is sympathetic and kinda the underdog. An “All the men around her did her wrong” narrative.
