The biggest question mark is on Jodie Comer, and whether she’ll campaign for Best Actress or Supporting Actress (if her performance is good and worthy. Ridley Scott is said to have been blown away by her performance in The Last Duel, and that’s why he cast her in Kitbag).
July 2, 2021 at 8:54 am #1204326970Jodie Comer – The Last Duel
Kirsten Dunst – The Power of the Dog
Frances McDormand – The Tragedy of MacBeth
Cate Blanchett – Nightmare AlleyAs far as we know, these could go Supporting.

July 2, 2021 at 9:03 am #1204326987I have a feeling Thomasin McKenzie in Last Night in Soho will go Lakeith Stanfield (if she and Taylor Joy were both considered standout) or Alicia Vikander (if she singled out as the standout) especially if all of Dunst, Blanchett, McDormand and Robbie (if 20th still have faith in it) going lead
FYC:
Best Director: Edgar Wright, Guillermo Del Toro, Jane Campion
Best Picture: Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog
Best Actress: Kristen Stewart, Thomasin McKenzie, Rooney Mara, Tessa Thompson
Best Actor: Benedict Cumberbatch, Bradley Cooper
Best S. Actress: Cate Blanchett, Diana Rigg, Anya Taylor Joy
Best S. Actor: Kodi Smit McPhee, Willem Dafoe, Richard JenkinsJuly 2, 2021 at 9:12 am #1204326994Here we go again…
July 2, 2021 at 9:27 am #1204327012I see Jessica Chastain happening for a lot of reasons : overdue narrative, transformative performance, producer credit (read Charlize Theron, Reese Witherspoon), past nominee, and decent campy trailer.
Lady Gaga : House of Gucci. That’s it.
Jennifer Hudson: while the trailer is uninspired, Hudson is a past winner playing an icon. And Academy is recognising more POC actors. Wouldn’t rule her out.
Marion Cotillard: very respected and celebrated. If the movie is even half as good, she could get in. It seems like a bold, rare performance that the Academy likes to honour every now and then.
Margot Robbie : the IT actress starring in a David O’ Russell film. After Joy, I am convinced that a white actor can make it no matter how crappy the movie is
J-Law: the other IT actress. And the fact that we are calling it her comeback performance. I mean, she is 30? Lol. Academy loves her. And so do people. She can totally happen.
Wouldn’t be surprised by any category fraud in Cate Blanchett and Frances McDormand’s cases.
Look out for

July 2, 2021 at 3:38 pm #1204327350Give how unpredictable the Academy is, anyone think actresses being highly predicted now might not end up getting nominated in the end (e.g Lady Gaga).
