I don’t understand all the confidence in House of Gucci I’m seeing.

Lady Gaga as a brand is huge! I am seeing posters and teasers being played for House of Gucci in India. There is a lot of faith in this film, at least from a commercial stand-point for it to have an international marketing campaign even before the raves are out.

I’ve got the same lineup as you except I think Nightmare Alley is going to replace one of House of Gucci, The Tragedy of Macbeth (which seems to be getting great reviews so far), or West Side Story. Just don’t know which one yet

About what I expected from such a strong trailer, I wonder what’s behind its rejection from Venice?

It’s got acclaim (I think it will maintain an 85+ on Metacritic from here on out) and it has DENZEL and FRANCES MCDORMAND. These are some of the most beloved figures in the industry today and the fact that the film has acclaim seems that it’ll probably be like Mank in the sense that it has a lot of respect from people in the industry without major passion (since it seems a little left of wide accessibility, though I may be wrong). Denzel is locked for a nom too, I think.

No previous adaptation of Macbeth has ever gotten an above the line nomination and two of those were by Orson Welles and Roman Polanski (right after Sharon Tate was murdered when he had industry sympathy and before his sex scandal) but they both got zero nominations. I’m not saying it’s impossible for TTOM to be nominated but my position hasn’t changed as of now.

What if Joel Coen gets a Best Director nod for a Shakespearean adaptation and Branagh gets snubbed? [evil laugh] 😈

This isn’t out of the realm of possibility since it’s the directors branch’s call. 🤞

I might put Macbeth back in Picture, which means goodbye West Side Story.
