I was worried about Eternals from the start tbh. I don’t trust Marvel to not intervene in some way with what the director wants to do when the director was mostly unknown before they were hired to make their films. Feige is arrogant like that. And sadly, it seems like this was fucked in a way. Makes me worried about Zatanna with Emerald Fennell.

Feige allowed Auteurs do their thing as long as they follow his rules. Edgar Wright exits Ant Man because Feige didnt allow him to make Ant Man a truly solo film without Tie Ins despite Wright spending almost a decade to develop it.

    FYC:
Best Director: Edgar Wright, Guillermo Del Toro, Jane Campion
Best Picture: Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog
Best Actress: Kristen Stewart, Thomasin McKenzie, Rooney Mara, Tessa Thompson
Best Actor: Benedict Cumberbatch, Bradley Cooper
Best S. Actress: Cate Blanchett, Diana Rigg, Anya Taylor Joy
Best S. Actor: Kodi Smit McPhee, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins

Fucking hell, Prisoner of Azkaban is the best Potter film ever made, and is considered as such by many if not most fans. Talk about awfully bad take

    Cuaron’s excellence, wbk.

Well, with all the Eternals’ discussion I couldn’t find if this was posted.

Cuarón saying Nightmare Alley could be Guillermo Del Toro best movie.

OK I mean, YES, and I love Cuaron, and sure OK I revise my statement which mostly I meant “he made a Harry Potter film”, but if we REALLY wanted to get into it, there’s at least 2 others that I think were better and also I think he directed the one with the weakest story, so there’s that. Regardless, does it really matter lol it’s so not relevant, the point was it’s fine that Zhao and Cuaron made these films, big deal

    FYC:
Picture: The Power of the Dog, Passing, The Lost Daughter, Drive My Car
    Director: Jane Campion, Rebecca Hall
    Actor: Benedict Cumberbatch, Hidetoshi Nishijima
Actress: Tessa Thompson, Olivia Colman, Kristen Stewart
Supporting Actress: Kirsten Dunst, Ruth Negga, Dakota Johnson, Jessie Buckley, Martha Plimpton
Supporting Actor: Kodi Smit-McPhee, Jesse Plemons, Andre Holland, Troy Kotsur, Richard Jenkins, Reed Birney

@kaziz stop with hot takes on PoA. “Worst movie”. “Weakest story”. Just no.

Eh, after Eternals being hyped the best MCU movie and sure fire Oscar winner and what not, praise from friends and studio peepz is just that. Nothing is over until critics and audience see the movie.

Lol these are not hot takes my lord, being precious about Harry Potter films is so strange damn, why must everything be a DEATH MATCH on here

    Metacritic score

    Gravity: 96
    Mad Max Fury Road: 90
    Dune: 75

Pundits have been comparing these movies, but they’re in no way comparable. Dune is not even a consensus among critics like Gravity and Fury Road were.

Maybe a best comparison would be Inception, which had 74 on Metacritic and it was a hit among the audience. Nolan didn’t get nominated, it didn’t got nominated for Editing and it “only” won 4 awards (There are people predicting Dune to win every single one of the tech categories)

Lol honestly I think that’s probably just Kevin Feige, it does not seem like Chloe Zhao tried to make an Oscar bait film, she just……made a film. 🤷🏽‍♂️ And in any case it was never going to affect her overall career. If Alfonso Cuaron can get away with having directed one of the most mediocre Harry Potter films, Zhao will be A-OK.

(There are people predicting Dune to win every single one of the tech categories)

I don’t see Dune winning cinematography, make-up, or costume. I’m surprised people are predicting Dune to have a complete tech sweep. Even crafts like editing and score are shaky for Dune imo.

Cuaron said that he saw Nightmare Alley and that it was Del Toro’s masterpiece, simply Del Toro at his best. I believe him, that’s why I do think it won’t win neither best picture or director.

This guy is so annoying LOL. Using the c-word again.

“Major crowdpleaser”, “compared to Lady Bird”, as if we couldn’t get to those conclusions based on the trailer.

The problem is that I can’t see this movie getting any acting nominations with those newcomers/non actors leads, and it doesn’t look like a heavy tech movie either and the direction doesn’t scream direction. It will get a BP nomination with only Screenplay and Editing ? I don’t buy.

    Definitely not happening.

Dune probably has in the bag:
    Sound
    Visual Effects

It’s in the top two for:
    Cinematography
    Costume Design
    Production Design
    Score

    Maaaaybe but not likely:
    Director

    But won’t win:
    Editing
    Makeup and Hairstyling

I think it’s ceiling is six, a Mad Max-type haul.

    EMMYS FYC
Dickinson – Hailee Steinfeld, Anna Baryshnikov
Kevin Can F**k Himself – Mary Hollis Inboden
    Only Murders – James Caverley
The Other Two – Drew Tarver, Heléne Yorke
    Physical – Rose Byrne
    Schmigadoon! – Ariana DeBose
The White Lotus – Alexandra Daddario

I think Spencer and House of Gucci are ahead of Dune in Costume Design

I can actually see Comer getting a SAG nomination.
