no way home looks to be the first film to double the year’s runner-up at the domestic box office, since titanic. whether ampas cares, we’ll see.
December 24, 2021 at 3:11 pm #1204677656Joker and Black Panther had social messages and prestige actors. Joker was originally even produced by Martin Scorsese. Black Panther brought Afro-futurism into mainstream costume design and was rewarded for that by the Academy. NWH doesn’t bring anything new to the table as a comic book movie.

December 24, 2021 at 3:28 pm #1204677678Happy holidays to everyone!
I am going to preface this by saying we all have a right to have different opinions. Some of us have different values than others. This is my way of starting to say how much I disliked everything about Licorice Pizza. Unfunny, no charisma or chemistry, sexist, a very troubling premise: a relationship between a 25 year old woman and a 15 year old boy. I don’t think it’s well directed, produced, acted, or edited. I will simpy hope that they give Belfast Best Original Screenplay. I don’t know why it would be nominated for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay but those are the only two categories I will predict this in.
I know the film has gotten great reviews. I just don’t agree with them.
December 24, 2021 at 3:32 pm #1204677692Honestly if Spider-Man gets a Picture nom I am staying the fuck off social media lol. The discourse would be more toxic and intense than all the conversations about MCU and cinema that came before. Film Twitter would absolutely collapse.

it would be more toxic than the joker discourse? idk about that.

You’re not along its not nearly as unanimously well liked as it seems.
But then again I’m not looking for ward to it since Inherent Vice is an awful incompetently made film and The Master is a non movie with a 1st draft of a script.
December 24, 2021 at 5:09 pm #1204677797Omg I’m starting to find Tom Holland annoying already. Just because Spider-Man is doing well at the B.O he now finds the audacity to come for people who contributed to cinema much more than he did
That quote looks even more ridiculous when you see how’d it look if people said it
“You can ask Scorsese ‘Would you want to make a DC movie?’ But he doesn’t know what it’s like because he’s never made one. I’ve made DC movies & movies that have been in conversation for Oscars & the only difference is one is much more expensive than other”

To be fair, his statement are taken out of context. Holland saying this basically he is talking about any auteurs that has made their condescending opinions on the MCU/any Capekino in general (Ridley Scott and Jane Campion, recently or Scorserse) who pretends MCU movies are Uwe Boll movies. He didnt say that MCU is better than any Auteur pieces, he just said that both are piece of art thats just made in different way. The Last Duel is art, The Power of the Dog is art, No Way Home is art. Hell even Alone in the Dark and The Last Airbender are art. and if its good, albeit different, why didnt reward it?
Y’all can hate Capeshit all you want, but he has a point
FYC:
Best Director: Edgar Wright, Guillermo Del Toro, Jane Campion
Best Picture: Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog
Best Actress: Kristen Stewart, Thomasin McKenzie, Rooney Mara, Tessa Thompson
Best Actor: Benedict Cumberbatch, Bradley Cooper
Best S. Actress: Cate Blanchett, Diana Rigg, Anya Taylor Joy
Best S. Actor: Kodi Smit McPhee, Willem Dafoe, Richard JenkinsDecember 24, 2021 at 8:41 pm #1204677887No Way Home would be a better Best Picture nominee than The Power of the Dog and Tick Tick Boom. That’s for sure.
Lol I needed a good laugh
December 24, 2021 at 8:44 pm #1204677890I would not care with NWH getting into BP IF we didn’t have a lot of more deserving movies in the line (like Drive my Car for example).
If they want to reward a blockbuster, I think 007 – No time to Die would fit the narrative better…
December 24, 2021 at 8:46 pm #1204677892This is the end walk so Don’t look up could run, i think the former is a much better satire than the latter, one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in my life.

Oscar-winner Tom Holland? Oscar-nominee Tom Holland?I’ve read his statement. Has he ever been nominated for an Oscar before?? Then he’ll never know the differences between the technicalities of such films.
I’ll believe when Angelina Jolie or Cate Blanchett says those things but we all gdamn know stuff like that won’t come out of their mouth. Actual Oscar winners/nominees. And NOT Tom Holland.

Tom Holland taking a best actor slot would not only melt down Oscar Twitter and Gold Derby, but the Ampas itself.
