and finally House of Gucci is gone. I never really understood why it was considered more likely than Ricardos (though both can still miss)

Late to the party but I just watched WSS and my brief thoughts:

·I much prefer the original version to this Spielberg one. It’s really just a remake with few changes. Hard to see this getting BP or BD now.

·Ariana DeBose is indeed the strongest supporting actress contender among the top 5. She deserves all the wins!

·Rachel Zegler enhanced the role, Maria. I don’t remember Natalie Wood impressed me as Zegler did in this new version.

·Mike Faist is good, but not as strong as I expected him from the critic responses. I become his fan from now on, though 🙂

    ·Ansel is distracting lol.(in a bad way)

·The magical feelings of some scenes in the 1961 version (Prologue, Jet song, Maria, etc) lost their touches in this 2021 version.

·Overall, it’s a 7/10 for me and now I have to admit there’s probably no film that can stop TPOTD to win BP this year.

We can only hope MacBeth gets in over one of them. I still have my fingers crossed for Drive My Car though but who knows.

This about to be the lamest BP lineup in years, probably decades.

I think TTB just cemented itself as that #9 film we’re curious about besides the 8 locks.

    Hope Macbeth replace Ricardos.

PGA rarely goes 10/10 so something will miss here. Tick Tick Boom or Being the Ricardos is my guess. Which one did better on the BAFTA longlists?

Being the Ricardos I think? It had Bardem, screenplay, etc.

HoG will replace Ricardos, Macbeth or DMC will replace TTB.

BTR did better and I have little doubt Nicole isn’t top 2 now.

Being the Ricardos and/or Tick Tick Boom will miss Best Picture. Don’t see the Academy nominating all of the PGA nominees

Last year’s was the worst ever, I think it’s unbeatable.

HoG is dead. It had no right to miss PGA.

I think people tend to forget that PGA = producers, whereas Best Picture nominees are selected by all branches.

So I think MacBeth if it continues to show strong support across the field, it’ll get in, even if it lacks support among producers. After all they’re only one branch of the Academy.
