The Campion discourse is… really bad. But there’s no serious top 2, she will be fine in the end.

Even then it would be weird. Like “I’m so mad about this I’m going to vote for Kenneth Branagh?” Ok

“I’m so mad I’m gonna give a third Directing Oscar to Spielberg”

Yep, I’d understand Campion losing if this was a fractured race for Director but the truth is that no one has any kind of narrative or could be called “Runner-up” to Campion.

Also, it’s important to remember most people don’t care about Twitter mob getting upset, they always get upset about something. If the industry cares for their opinion, Garfield and Stewart would have won everything.

Yeah, I don’t think they will care that much. I mean there’s a pandemic and a global war looming. And what she meant is that women in tennis don’t have to compete directly against men like in film. Sure, it sounded tone deaf and she shouldn’t have said it since both Venus and Serena most definitely encountered a lot of hardship as black women in tennis. But I hope she contacted them and apologized.

The same awards group who three years ago gave Best Picture and Original Screenplay to a film written by someone who reposted Donald Trump’s Islamophobic conspiracy theories and had a director who admitted to sexual misconduct are not going to care about a drunk Jane Campion making a poorly phrased comment in her speech that the Williams sisters went on to clap and cheer about.

    What new system?

    Preferential ballot. Ten BP nominees.

    FYC:

Everything Everywhere All At Once in every eligible category

Remember when people thought Casey Affleck was losing the Oscar after Denzel took SAG and the allegations against him started getting attention.

TPOTD was not that damn good to begin with. The hype of it all was due to it being made by a female. I’d fallen asleep on my first watch. Had to force myself to complete it.

She and the film is going to win regardless but… I’m not watching after will wins.

I thought the preferential ballot was implemented in 2009.

I think the biggest effect this will have on Campion is that she probably won’t get a unanimous standing ovation when she wins now.

    Yep, not the 1930s.

2009 is not new either so I’m still confused what you mean especially when all the movies that won under the preferential ballot had more than three noms and support below the line.

The Power of the Dog = 2 BAFTA wins

    FYC:

Everything Everywhere All At Once in every eligible category

Hold My Hand - Lady Gaga for Best Original Song
