Definitely you are not delusional, and neither are those who think it is decided. It’s that kind of Oscar race, where the suspense comes from two sides, neither of which can plausibly wave away the other.
A lot more compelling imo than a countdown to an effectively preordained sweep (oh hi Titanic, oh hi Return of the King).

I wonder to what extent the pandemic affected the way audiences consumed things, because now it seems like they don’t give a fuck about anything but superhero movies.

Indeed – Netflix should rightly be worried about Apple’s acumen at this game (and perhaps ditch some of its awards team members, and poach a few from Apple!)
Also, I figure Apple won’t be sharing awards-season or distribution duties with A24 again, considering how that studio largely bombed out this season despite having a raft of highly praised films, with their joint production Tragedy of Macbeth arguably underperforming in the nominations relative to some expectations, and flatlining in terms of buzz for actual wins.
On another note, I think Bleecker Street will bounce back from this season’s debacle with Mass to get at least leading-actress mentions for Helen Mirren in Golda (https://www.screendaily.com/news/golda-goes-to-bleecker-street-and-shivhans-for-the-us/5161627.article). B.Street looks to be returning to their awards wheel-house with this one – title-character-driven dramas (Trumbo, Captain Fantastic) that mustered acting noms for the leads (Cranston, Mortensen).
