I have some insider info to share 1. The Whale, Next Goal Wins, and Being the Ricardos are all coming out next year 2. Focus’ biggest push is Belfast (they see it as Branagh’s Roma), but they will be willing to pivot if the reactions to Last Night in Soho are “through the roof” 3. C’mon C’mon is a maybe for Telluride, A24 also reportedly wants to push Red Rocket. 4. Tick Tick Boom is apparently Netflix’s biggest overall push as it reportedly played “really really well” with test audiences 5. Passing was apparently re-edited, so maybe there’s something there

Reasonable for Focus. Belfast is a more traditional Oscar bait and safe bet for acting unless its another Hillbily Elegy and Soho is more kind of Crowdpleaser that would be nominated in above the line categories if its generates passion and audience buzz, relying on Industry support for Edgar Wright and Taylor Joy’s popularity

    FYC:
Best Director: Edgar Wright, Guillermo Del Toro, Jane Campion
Best Picture: Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog
Best Actress: Kristen Stewart, Thomasin McKenzie, Rooney Mara, Tessa Thompson
Best Actor: Benedict Cumberbatch, Bradley Cooper
Best S. Actress: Cate Blanchett, Diana Rigg, Anya Taylor Joy
Best S. Actor: Kodi Smit McPhee, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins

The Green Knight is getting amazing reviews (96% RT and 88 MC). I don’t think it’ll be a contender, but I think that’s good information to share here.

Not if the new rumour (that Macbeth was rejected by Venice because it isn’t very good) is true.

Do you mind if I ask where this rumor came from?

If people can still predict Annette (though less so than before Cannes), they can predict Green Knight since it has stronger reviews. Neither will happen, though.

You’re right that neither will happen but this is not a good comparison. One of those movies opened a major festival, won a big prize and has a forthcoming worldwide theatrical rollout.

The other has a higher MC score sure, but it’s also had part of its theatrical release cancelled, skipped Cannes and is now unlikely to get in even at BAFTA, where it had the best shot.

You know as well as everyone else on this forum does that reviews aren’t the be all and end all.
