I really don’t get Bradley Cooper being in the top 5 in the predictions center for Licorice Pizza? I think he will get a Best Actor nomination but not a Supporting Actor nomination. I find it very surprising and I am not expecting Cooper to get the double nominations.

Doesn’t matter, fact is that from all that’s been heard Cooper doesn’t have a cameo in Licorice Pizza but quite a baity supporting part. I doubt he’s going to win but he’s absolutely a possibility to be nominated.

A category primed for “surprise” or coattail nominees. I’m still #TeamJenkins for the win but my bet for a surprise nom is Jon Bernthal in King Richard, as I figure that film will be one of a few with strong momentum during the thick of the season.

A Jon Bernthal nomination would rule. Don’t tease me with that idea.

PT Anderson’s films have a track-record of getting at least one Oscar nomination. Generally, at least, one in the acting category.

And, if this is anything like his first two major films (which it sounds like this is), then a supporting actor nom for Cooper is likely. He got Burt Reynolds and Tom Cruise in for Boogie Nights and Magnolia. Odds are he’ll probably do something similar with Cooper here…

A very annoying young man, who loves cinema. 🙂

Reliable, unless Licorice Pizza is more in the vein of Punch-Drunk Love or Inherent Vice, which might leave it on the sidelines at Ampas.

I mean, even Inherent Vice got two (?) noms and Josh Brolin was probably close to being the third.

Fine with LP predictions for screenplay and costume design, but I was responding in reference to the acting categories. Sure, Cooper is likely to finish sixth or lower for LP. Searchlight will probably have the mojo to get him a lead nom for NA – I’m not high on the awards season chops of MGM/UA.

I seriously have no clue who could win here. Of the performances that have debuted so far, none seem particuarly win worthy. Even the performances yet to be seen i.e Cooper, Leto, Simmons etc, give me minimal confidence. This race will probably end up a nail biter unless a strong front runner emerges.

Yeah, I feel the same. Usually this is the most interesting category and has produced some of the most interesting winners recently, but this year I don’t see anyone with clear frontrunner status as of now. Not even someone who could become that.

can they just give the Oscar to Bradley Cooper now here considering there are barely any contenders at all so he won’t have to terrify us when that Maestro biopic comes out

The way they put in the trailer and the poster Sean Penn billed in third position over Cooper and Safdie makes me think that if Licorice Pizza is well received by The Academy, he may be the one who gets the Supporting nomination.

I think i’ll start predicting him instead of Safdie or Cooper.
