This is the category where some surprises can happen.
And I really hope they do! How boring it will be if they just resort to nominating former winners/nominees like J.K. Simmons, Jared Leto (barf), Ben Affleck, Bradley Cooper… when they could go for Jesse Plemmons, Mike Faist, David Alvarez, Jeffrey Wright or Robin de Jesus.
P.S. I’m really surprised that all season long Andrew Garfield hasn’t been able to show up here for The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Maybe it’s bc Jessica is barely happening herself? Or bc of the obvious category fraud? Still.

(A) Jessica Chastain is getting in literally everywhere- she got in at the second most critic groups after Stewart, got GG, CC, SAG. I don’t understand how people think she’s barely happening when the Oscar Nominations are based on preferential ballot which makes Chastain a very safe bet because she’s getting a ton of #1 votes. Where major has she missed other than AACTA (which is decided by a jury) and LFCC (another jury)? Are you all predicting her to miss because of the AACTA or LFCC? Or because of the box office failure in a pandemic? Tammy Faye as a film is extremely accessible and the final Scene (if you’ve watched you know) absolutely locks her nomination. People from SAG on GD have also commented how massively strong she is (which isn’t a big indication but still). Searchlight are running a great campaign.
(B) Garfield is not happening for Tammy Faye because Jessica Chastain has taken the spotlight so much that he’s dwarfed. Also all his recognition is focussed around Tick Tick Boom.
(C) Garfield is borderline lead but mostly supporting. It’s clearly explained here:
Screen time data for The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021)
– Jessica Chastain – 1:36:42 (76.45%)
– Andrew Garfield – 58:25 (46.19%)
– Cherry Jones – 11:08 (8.80%)
– Vincent D’Onofrio – 8:46 (6.93%) pic.twitter.com/s2uOgkZqnB— Matthew Stewart (@MatthewAStewart) January 8, 2022
Garfield’s percentage is higher than I thought it’d be, but he’s still supporting for me. The story is so, so much more Tammy’s than Jim’s. He’s not even an out-and-out lead antagonist like Ike in What’s Love Got to Do with It, but rather more of a hindrance to the protagonist.

The movie will struggle to connect with international members because Tammy Faye is an american symbol. Her missing AACTA is the further proof of that.
At the end of the her movie is way weaker than Ricardos and Gucci (and that’s why Garfield is not happening for Tammy Faye), for example. People miss the Oscar after getting SAG and GG all the time.
January 23, 2022 at 11:55 am #1204745410That wasn’t what started the rumor. There were stories on the internet (message boards and tumblr) of Thirty Seconds to Mars groupies accusing him of taking advantage of young fans, being forceful and a creep. The stories were all from way before this tweets. I guess the posts were mostly deleted, but there were a lot of them.

If you do some research you’ll find out that it was mainly some fanfic shit on tumblr.
January 23, 2022 at 1:06 pm #1204745445Yeah, his fans always say that, but this rumor is actually older than tumblr. There are screenshots of posts as old as 2005, 2008 accusing him of preying on underage girls. This is one link that is still up https://nypost.com/2005/09/12/hey-leto-girl-jared-shows-hes-a-teen-play/
Idk if it’s true or not but there are multiple stories about it.
January 23, 2022 at 2:07 pm #1204745546Tender Bar peaking at this right time on Amazon Prime will secure enough votes for Affleck.
January 23, 2022 at 2:24 pm #1204745576LFCC (another jury)?
The London film critics circle nominations are not decided by a jury.
FYC:
"The Good Fight", "The Other Two" and "Station Eleven" in all categories, Sarah Lancashire ("Julia"), William Jackson Harper ("Love Life") and Luke Kirby ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel")

Honestly, he still seemed more like a Lead to me, especially during the first half of the film. The second half, yeah, he takes a backseat, but if he’s Supporting then what the hell is Vincent D’Onofrio (really really good performance, btw)? Just because an actor is not THE Lead, does not mean they aren’t A Lead.
January 23, 2022 at 4:47 pm #1204745759… just what a shame that the best performance in the movie in my opinion (Faist) is not getting the support or recognition it deserves.
David Alvarez says “Hello.”

. Just threw me off that Zack or Cody had an opinion on that in particular lol

Yeah, he’s in more of Tammy Faye than Bardem is in Being the Ricardos. Even with the argument of who drives the plot for sorting people into lead/supporting, Garfield still comes out as a lead to me. Feels like a Jamie Foxx situation with Ray and Collateral.
