Darling, this is probably the only category where I’m actually rooting for the frontrunner. Pretty meh category, but… it’s the Oscars. My final prediction of this race; Will win: Troy Kotsur, CODA Could win: Kodi Smit-McPhee, The Power of the Dog Should win: Troy Kotsur, CODA
Same! His win would be such a breath of fresh air in an otherwise totally bleurgh ceremony. I can’t wait for his speech, just for the serotonin boost.

You might as well prepare because it looks set to happenMarch 14, 2022 at 8:43 am #1204849559I really think someday Ciaran hinds will pull off an rylance type of win now that he is familiar to the industry and got his first Oscar and BAFTA nom for a movie that underperformed he is one inch away of completing the British triple crown noms
Does Hinds have multiple Tonys and multiple Oliviers like Rylance?

No I meant winning an Oscar by a BAFTA win that’s what I meant by rylance type of win lol 😂

Kotsur is now the obvious choice, but Smit-McPhee’s critic group support (who the nomination of Penelope Cruz shows us the importance of), the fact that I can’t imagine TPOTD winning zero acting awards now that Smith has lead actor on lock, and the Academy’s clear love of Dog in their membership which continues to distance itself from the picks of the more basic groups like SAG and CC is making it difficult…

It looks set to happen. Troy Kotsur looks like the lock now for Supporting Actor.
I believe there has been films that won Best Picture and no acting wins

I agree that Kotsur probably has the win in the bag, but to me Smit-McPhee just seems like the kind of surprise that would come from the Academy, and that in hindsight would kinda make sense.

Several – including the film that beat Campion’s The Piano – Schindler’s List.

I didn’t care for Kodi’s performance so I was very happy Troy won because I really enjoyed his performance
