I agree that Kotsur probably has the win in the bag, but to me Smit-McPhee just seems like the kind of surprise that would come from the Academy, and that in hindsight would kinda make sense.
It’s not impossible. Either this or someone we don’t expect takes Best Actress or Drive My Car wins adapted screenplay. Something’s gonna happen. Last year for example I really didn’t expect McDormand to win another Oscar!

yeah, Chastain/Smith/Debose/Smit-McPhee just feels a little too predictable that it’s giving me doubts lol

Yeah, I’m hoping (and honestly, expecting) the Academy to give us some surprises.

I wouldn’t bet against Will, Ariana, or Troy for anything at this point though.

Sooooooo we’re all thinking Jesse Plemons? Lol

Chastain possibly the most vulnerable out of the 4 acting locks (Troy is a lock for Supporting)?

ReplyCopy URLMarch 14, 2022 at 10:42 pm #1204850958I love Kotsur’s performance and I’m happy he’s winning but I’m pretty sad that one of my favourite (and in my opinion, best) performances of the year has been left in the dust

I feel the same, but glad that his performance was at least recognised by critics. Also, I’m so happy he is now known as Academy Award Nominee Kodi Smit-McPhee! 😊
Adding that I’m happy too for Academy Award Nominees Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst, since they both appear in the gif too, haha! 😁

I finally watched CODA last night and can see why Troy Kotsur is starting to win all the awards – he was terrific and will make a fine winner. That being written, I’m still hoping that Kodi Smit-McPhee somehow upsets (I’m assuming now it will be an upset) because I appreciate his performance just a tad more. Peter needed an actor to capture his subtle deceptiveness and Smit-McPhee perfectly obliged.
So, I guess now my Oscar prediction will reflect that I think Kotsur is winning this. I’ll be cool with it.
p.s. CODA is like butter. It melted my heart a bit, especially the scene when Ruby is auditioning and her family is sitting in the balcony. I wiped a way a couple of tears. One of those magical cinema moments.

I feel the same. Not to mention the ending. I didn’t expect I’m going to cry 3 times. What a film experience!

Maybe Colman or Cruz surprises in Best Actress? Actor and Supporting Actress feel beyond locked.

March 15, 2022 at 12:46 pm #1204852107Yep CODA was a tearjearker but a real good one. Emilia Jones has a promising career ahead and I would loved to see her nominated over Colman, Chastain Kidman and Stewart to be honest.
