I mean Aunjanue Ellis will probably get a lot of No.1 votes which might seal her nomination (due to the system by which actors are nominated) but might not get enough support to win once the voting expands to the entire academy for the win. Ruth Negga is also likely safe because she will also get a ton of No.1 votes.

Kathryn Hunter should 100% be nominated for this award, my god she gave a perfect, memorable performance with so little screen time.

Of course darling. Meryl’s Oscar contending performances feels like a pure name-check nowadays.

huh? Meryl hasn’t been in the race in years, that tired narrative about Meryl being a namecheck is laughable, she is one of the giants

Darling, this is one of the best supporting performance of the year. Terrifying, haunting, otherworldly mesmerizing, and a flawless masterclass in acting transformation. I don’t mind any of those frontrunners getting snubbed (except Negga) in favor for The Three Witches darling. I love this performance, an Oscar nom will be beyond deserving!

    FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION DARLING.
Tessa Thompson, Lead Actress for PASSING
Ruth Negga, Supporting Actress for PASSING
Charlotte Rampling, Supporting Actress for BENEDETTA
Martha Plimpton, Supporting Actress for MASS
Arawinda Kirana, Lead Actress for YUNI
Kathryn Hunter, Supporting Actress for THE TRAGEDY OF MACBETH

Just watched West Side Story and I’m here for Ariana to win the Oscar. Amazing performance and definitely did the character justice. This category is insane. Wouldn’t mind seeing any of Ariana, Ruth or Kirsten winning. All deserving. I also have to say, I liked Rita Moreno a lot and, I’m not gonna lie, I did cry during her rendition of ‘Somewhere’. Beautiful moment.

Oh girl, so sweet! I’m watching tomorrow.

I actually don’t think Cate Blanchett is getting in. The fact that she got SAG nominated for Nightmare Alley and BAFTA longlisted (and AACTA nominated although it is not substantial) for Don’t Look Up clearly shows she has love for two performances and I don’t know if she’ll be able to overcome a dual vote split-
    (1) vote split with co stars from both Don’t Look Up and Nightmare Alley
    (2) vote split with herself

Moreover it’s Streep who is more likely for Don’t Look Up and Nightmare Alley is really tanking (BAFTA Longlists clearly suggest that).

Interesting thoughts there. While I do see your points, I want to flip your argument and say that Blanchett has a late arrival heat. It does not matter that both Nightmare Alley or Don’t Look Up are mid level movies. Both her performances are great and shows yet again how incredible versatile of an actress she is.

And I do worry about the vote split though. I truly thought Blanchett was out until SAG and the BAFTA long list.
This supporting race is a fantastic mess! Love it!

Love that people are finally getting to see Kathryn Hunter’s fantastic performance. Hope she gets more attention and possibly some awards traction like BAFTA nom.

Kathryn Hunter should 100% be winning. Now THAT’S a supporting performance deserving to be called “best”.

Next up for me would be Jessie Buckley.
