Supporting Actress
Caitriona Balfe, “Belfast”
Runners up: Ariana DeBose, “West Side Story,” and Kirsten Dunst, “The Power of the Dog”This group seems to be more populist and I think these will be the top 3 for the industry awards (one from each Best Pic frontrunner).
January 16, 2022 at 8:34 am #1204731674If the three witches from Macbeth were played by Meryl Streep, she’d already be locked for the nomination.
As much as I love Streep I don’t think she would play the witches as brilliant as Kathryn. Streep is, arguably, the greatest but there are some roles other just play better than her and that’s ok. So, for that I think she could get a nom but with another type of performance (and probably inferior to Kathryn’s)
January 16, 2022 at 8:34 am #1204731676No one could have played the role better than Kathryn Hunter, absolutely NO ONE
January 16, 2022 at 8:37 am #1204731688And I agree Hunter should be winning the Oscar
January 16, 2022 at 8:43 am #1204731698huh? Meryl hasn’t been in the race in years, that tired narrative about Meryl being a namecheck is laughable, she is one of the giants
She was nominated just 3 years ago (as a namecheck) and then she was in the race at some point for every single movie she’s been in as a namecheck first, just in case her and/or the movie worked until they didn’t: Don’t Look Up, The Prom, Let them All Talk, Mary Poppins, Little Women and The Laundromat. And it’s a tired narrative, yes, but it happened. And will keep happening.

In all fairness she should’ve gotten a nom for Let Them All Talk. It was easily her best work in the last 7 years.
January 16, 2022 at 11:04 am #1204732017My God! Give Kathryn Hunter the damn Oscar! What a riveting performance! Stunning!
January 16, 2022 at 11:09 am #1204732020I want to ask you guys a question but I want you to try to get into the voters´ minds (impossible as that might seem)
Fact 1: DeBose was amazing! No doubt!
Fact 2: Rita Moreno won the same Oscar for the same role 60 years ago!
You really think they would give ANOTHER best supporting actress Oscar for the same movie, for the same role to another actor? You are really telling me that it won´t be an issue when the day comes to pick the winner?
I just hope you are right! Because I find it difficult to believe it.
SHE IS GETTING THE NOMINATION, though.January 16, 2022 at 11:30 am #1204732044I want to ask you guys a question but I want you to try to get into the voters´ minds (impossible as that might seem)

SHE IS GETTING THE NOMINATION, though. The only scenario I don’t see her winning is if the movie completely flops (missing Director, Screenplay, etc), but even then she wouldn’t have much competition since SAG snubbed Ellis, Belfast is fading and Dunst is not getting much hype for the win.
January 16, 2022 at 12:05 pm #1204732101I wouldn’t give Hunter the Oscar but I think she’d make an inspiring nominee. Something is missing from her performance. I think it was the dialogue. There’s no human qualities in her performance. Also, no one this century can understand what she is saying. It’s not her fault. The director.
Also, Meryl’s take on the Three Witches would have been different and more cinematic. If anyone has watched Angels in America, I wouldn’t question what Streep could do in a role like that.
Ruth is still the best.

Best Actor: The Whale

Best Supporting Actor: Poor ThingsJanuary 16, 2022 at 3:04 pm #1204732499Kathryn Hunter was absolutely haunting in Macbeth and would be a deserving nominee. That being said, I don’t think she had nearly enough screen time to justify a win.
January 17, 2022 at 12:23 pm #1204734152She was nominated just 3 years ago (as a namecheck) and then she was in the race at some point for every single movie she’s been in as a namecheck first, just in case her and/or the movie worked until they didn’t: Don’t Look Up, The Prom, Let them All Talk, Mary Poppins, Little Women and The Laundromat. She was deserving for the post and baity as hell, not her fault
January 17, 2022 at 12:30 pm #1204734162Just watched The Tragedy of Macbeth, and felt Hunter really stole the show. I was always waiting for her to come back on screen. She would be a very deserving nominee.
