Anyone else think Ann Dowd will get an Indie Spirit nomination for FEMALE LEAD performance??? I think the reason Dowd was latched onto was because of The Handmaid’s Tale. It’s been a long time since Plimpton gave superb performances back in the 1980’s, particularly in one of my very favorite movies, Shy People.

So bizarre that Dowd immediately went to #1 when the center opened and the two OTHER people who got full out raaaaaaaves from Sundance didn’t: Plimpton from the same film & Negga from Passing. Just……..makes no sense.

Ann Dowd is Aunt Lydia. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I believe that Plimpton was put in Lead when the center opened before the category confirmation from Bleecker Street and I think Ruth Negga was actually added to Supporting very recently. I’m not sure about Plimpton, but I imagine as this season continues, the odds in the center will favor Negga a bit more than she currently is.

Ruth Negga looks phenomenal in Passing. She is so overdue for a second Oscar nomination. I don’t know if this will be her Oscar vehicle but I wouldn’t be surprised if she wins an Oscar in the next decade. Rooting for her.

she isn’t at all overdue. I agree she looks amazing but you’re using that term incorrectly.

Lol if Ruth Negga is overdue for a second Oscar nomination after doing Ad Astra and critically panned Warcraft since her Oscar nomination, what is Toni Collette?

Is it ever that deep? I just want to see another WOC get awards recognition again💀She doesn’t get that many opportunities in the industry because Hollywood is racist and there are few opportunities for WOC. She’s an underrated brilliant subtle actress that should have a second Oscar nomination by now had Hollywood given her better projects.

That’s a whole different point you are making lol I can stand behind this. She’s wonderful and deserves more opportunities. 🙂

Yeah I would say she is due for a nomination for Passing if she delivers and she will! I would be quite disappointed if the Academy ignores her performance since so many White contenders have got in for films when their films were so-so.

And I agree with you that Collette should be racking in so many nominations by now. It makes no sense why she missed for Little Miss Sunshine considering the film won SAG ensemble and she is the true MVP of the film, not Alan Arkin. The Supporting Actress race is so interesting this year with Dunst, Negga, Collette, and Mara in the race. I’m more eager to see how this race pans out compared to Best Actress.

I’m not going to lie, if Toni is in, I’m team Toni all the way. She’s possibly my favorite non-winning actress, but yeah it’d be nice to see Ellis, Negga, DeBose in the mix as well and you know I won’t mind if either takes it in the end! 🙂

I have Regina vibes from Ruth as well! 🙂
