It’s possible that Streep could just have like under 10 minutes of screen time in Don’t Look Up because the ensemble is so huge.

It’s Meryl Streep playing a female version of Donald Trump. She will get nominated.

It was from golderby forum only. Can’t remember which one but around June end there was buzz from multiple insiders claiming the movie was better than the script and Leo, Meryl and Blanchett are the stand outs.

Ok found the source. Leo, Meryl and Mark Rylance are awards bait.

Helen Mirren is out of the race with The Duke being pushed back to next year… sadly. Her funniest role in some time and nails my home accent. I feel it’s been too long since she’s had a great role to return to the Oscars!

Virginie Efira, Charlotte Rampling, Lambert Wilson Benedetta (Actress, Supporting Actress/Actor)
    Noomi Rapace Lamb (Actress)
Kristen Stewart, Sally Hawkins, Timothy Spall Spencer (Actress, Supporting Actress/Actor)

Given the material and campaign obviously, this category looks like a bloodbath honestly. Obviously most of these won’t happen and we don’t even know if some of these films are happening for sure (possible leads with *, possible 2022 with **) but the field looks like:

Dowd, Dunst*, DeBose, Comer*, Negga, Collette, Streep, Dench, Mara, McDonald, Buckley**, Johnson**, Farmiga, Ferguson, Hawkins, Taylor-Joy, McKenzie, Conroy, Ellis, Houdyshell**, Merediz.

For me these are near-impossible but you might disagree: Blanchett (Don’t Look Up), Matlin, Hayek, Close, Moreno, Awkwafina, Balfe, Sánchez-Gijón, Saponangelo, Keough, Shipp, Zendaya, Rampling, .

I’m sure many of you have a completely different list, but is it just me or is this……just possibly really competitive?

    FYC:
Picture: The Power of the Dog, Passing, The Lost Daughter
    Director: Jane Campion, Rebecca Hall
    Actor: Benedict Cumberbatch
    Actress: Tessa Thompson, Olivia Colman
Supporting Actress: Kirsten Dunst, Ruth Negga, Dakota Johnson, Jessie Buckley
Supporting Actor: Kodi Smit-McPhee, Jesse Plemons

It’s really not. The script and the test screenings confirm this.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the possibility of Amy Schumer in The Humans. I think she could be a “Sacha Baron Cohen” type nomination in terms of being a Hollywood comedic star being recognized in a drama. Her role is both comedic and heartbreaking.

I understand that Jayne’s character was the one that won the Tony, but these are the Oscars and they love their stars. Probably won’t happen, but having read the play and not having seen the film yet, it hypothetically could.

I think Beanie Feldstein would be the more likely bet if you were gonna go down this road. She was nominated in Lead at the Tonys and she plays Steven Yeun’s husband (tho tbf you seem to know this already). Beanie also fits the ingenue role so there’s more novelty in that than Schumer. Still tho, Schumer’s role is appealing and if she does manage to pull it off she could break through.

(Also gotta love the Matty Healy pic)

I’m sorry but no. I tend to give everyone a chance. I even have Kristen Stewart winning. But Amy Schumer is not coming anywhere near an Oscar. She’s nowhere near SBC in terms of industry respect or dare I say it even talent. I really doubt she can pull this off.
