The Shape of WaterHuge yellow flag for Spencer. It should not be missing this, but if this is price for Jonny Greenwood to win his Oscar then ok.
Alexandre Desplat will definitely get a name check nom for The French Dispatch. He really is the new John Williams.
And it’s interesting to see The Last Duel earning a spot here.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 3, 2021 at 3:29 pm #1204555511Tbh Spencer probably missed because they didn’t want to nominate Jonny Greenwood twice in the same category. Don’t know their rules though.

Spencer was probably eligible in the Independent Film category, which I forgot to post (sorry for that):

Yeah, it was probably eligible here. I still think it doesn’t mean much. I still think is getting in at the Oscars. I hope so. Loved the track Greenwood released.

November 3, 2021 at 5:01 pm #1204555704Eh, these don’t really mean much and neither do the winners. Weird that Spencer missed here, but shouldn’t hinder it when you have films like King Richard, Stillwater, and NTTD in here that are most likely not happening here (I would include DLU but no one has heard that score yet). The winners are even more off-base.

Nicholas Brittel is one of the most talented and respected composers in recent times. He’s very likely to get nominated for Don’t Look Up.
And what do you mean “it doesn’t mean much” ? Just look at the track record I posted. There’s a significant overlap.

It appears King Richard is likely to get two Oscar noms for song and score.
And interesting that the Hollywood Music and Media Awards judges/voters have heard (enough of) Nathan Johnson’s new score for Nightmare Alley considering the film isn’t ready to be screened for awards bodies. Wonder if they listened to it separate from the visuals, or they got to see selected finished(-ish) clips with parts of the score.
