Are any of them playing themselves? Just a vibe I get that it might be that kind of movie.

I’m sure all of the musicians are playing themselves.

When was the last time a straight-up comedic performance won an Oscar? Don’t Look Up is a comedy, right?

Apologies – I meant in Lead but missed it off. I’ll edit my original comment.

Well I guess Gwyneth Paltrow for Actress because Shakespeare in Love was a comedy and Jack Nicholson for As Good as it Gets?

Unless you want to count Jean Dujardin as well.

So a good while, then (I wouldn’t count Dujardin personally). That said the sheer prestige of the cast could help Don’t Look Up overcome any genre bias.

Don’t Look Up is not a Step Brothers or Anchorman-type of comedy.
It’s been described as a timely dark satire in the vein of “Dr.Strangelove”, “Network”, and “Wag The Dog” .

It’s the kind of stuff that industry voters will eat up.

Here’s hoping that Banshees of Inisheer can make a splash and propel Farrell, Gleeson and McDonagh into the Oscar race. There has been exactly no update about the production status but I remain hopeful that it can be finished in time

    5th acting nom for Lawrence.

    7th acting nom for DiCaprio.

depending on the competition of course, but acting in Mckay movies has been marvelous recently. They are also the type of performances that award bodies like.

what I found on two Jennifer Lawrence fan accounts on Twitter (@todoxjlaw and @jennferupdates) about Don’t look up:
    • Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio and Rob Morgan will play scientists. One becomes a celebrity, one becomes hated by America.
    • Meryl Steeep will play the president, Jonah Hill will play her son
    • Cate Blanchett is set to play a political TV host
    • Ariana Grande will sing an exclusive song in the film

•Everybody is really impressed by the similarity of the film to what has happened in the pandemic. Meryl read the script and was fascinated by it

Lol I hope she isn’t a secret Trump supporter in real life because she seems to be playing people who could be Trump supporters nowadays lol.
