Stallone has to be nominated for sure after the reaction he got at the globes

Oscar voting was closed by the time the Globes aired. So those voters never had the chance to vote after seeing the ovation.

I have Stallone snubbed in my predictions.

People who are accounting for the ovation in their predictions are doing so because it is indicative of support, not because voters would be swayed by seeing an ovation.

Not good at math. If I have 100/1 odds for all my predicted cinematography noms, is it worth switching out Beasts of No Nation for Mad Max if my other four are The Revenant, Carol, Sicario, and Hateful Eight?

Points from odds are only used to break ties and thus are irrelevant if you have more predictions wrong than others.

Ohh glad I got that cleared up, thanks.

Will change that. Damn, if only I had more faith in Mad Max way back when.

Probably a good thing though because I’m not very confident abot Hateful Eight.

How do Best Picture predictions work on Goldderby? Everyone just lists 10 and gets credit for the correct nominees, nobody gets punished for wrong predictions? It seems like that is how it goes, looking at the charts.

This isn’t how it should be, since there are a flexible number of BP nominees and predicting exactly the correct nominees should be a significant part of the game, but I’m just trying to figure out if this is indeed how it works right now so I can list my predictions.

That is how it works, and I agree that it isn’t ideal. I’m also guessing it’s not that easy to make it work otherwise.

    Gut feelings:

‘Straight Outta Compton’ will largely be ignored. I think a lot of its ‘momentum’ exists only in the Oscarologist sphere. Only an exceptional number of films have ever been nominated for Best Picture and one other Oscar, and I doubt this film has enough broad support to get into Best Picture.

Similarly, I think a double nomination for Alicia Vikander is somewhat unlikely (although it wouldn’t be that surprising in a less-than-competitive year).

    Conundrums:

Why ‘The Martian’ and ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ are locks (we think) but ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ will miss out on Best Picture. I don’t really understand why ‘The Martian’ is such an awards magnet: it’s not particularly groundbreaking or memorable; just simply good. ‘Star Wars’ is memorable and groundbreaking – as is ‘Mad Max’, though not to the same extent.

I’m hoping for good things for “Steve Jobs” and “The Big Short”. If Jeff Daniels is snubbed I may feel like starting a riot.

You may want to get that riot in motion now then, homie.

Don’t think Straight Outta Compton is the type of movie that Oscarologists would overhype. There’s real momentum with the SAG, PGA and WGA nods.

On the other hand, I probably sound hypocritical because I feel like Ex Machina isn’t really going to happen. It feels very much like the type of contender that’s not really a contender that Oscarologists try to will into being. Basically, it’s Nightcrawler. So I’m just predicting it for screenplay.
