Sony has a huge slate this year: besides Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, they also have Little Women (Columbia) and Pain and Glory (SPC) which aren’t listed yet. Also yet to see Knives Out for Lionsgate (could be a play for Original Screenplay).

Yeah, nothing. To be fair though, this is probably their busiest year in a while. They have a busy time ahead for Best Picture and International Feature.

I’m not sure what Amazon’s big push is this year. Les Miserables getting the French nomination over Portait of a Lady on Fire was a great get for Amazon, but also The Report is English-language and Honey Boy is a crowdpleaser. Any advice?

http://a24awards.com/ is live, so now we know their FYC!

    • The Farewell (Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, Actress, Supporting Actress, Film Editing, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Original Score, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling, Visual Effects)
    • Gloria Bell (Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay*, Actress, Supporting Actor, Film Editing, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Original Score, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling)
    • High Life (Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, Actor (Robert Pattinson), Supporting Actor (Andre 3000), Supporting Actress, Film Editing, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Original Score, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling, Visual Effects)
    • The Last Black Man in San Francisco (Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, Actor, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Film Editing, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Original Score, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling)
    • The Lighthouse (Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, Actor (Robert Pattinson), Supporting Actor (Willem Dafoe <3), Film Editing, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Original Score, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling, Visual Effects)
    • Midsommar (Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, Actress, Supporting Actor, Film Editing, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Original Score, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing)**
    • The Souvenir (Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, Actress, Supporting Actor, Film Editing, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Original Score, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling)
    • Uncut Gems (Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, Actor, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Film Editing, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Original Score, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling, Visual Effects)
    • Waves (Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, Actor, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Film Editing, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Original Score, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling, Visual Effects)

What this says to me is that in this early stage, A24 is tying to find which films are their best shot. They are going big – barely any categories got spared.

    * It says co-adaptation but is original? Isn’t this a remake? I am confused

** Come on, the one they don’t do makeup and hairstyling is the one with some really good hairstyling with the flowers?

I don’t know why they would. It was neither memorable nor successful. Perhaps their worst of the year right after Under the Silver Lake and slightly above The Souvenir. It’s no surprise they’re not campaigning any of these three in addition to Climax.
