The Seagull trailer is out and she looks splendid in an easily campaign-able supporting role.

She’s not overdue. None of her Oscar-nommed performances is actually Oscar-winning.

The Seagull was filmed two and a half years ago. It’s been sitting on the shelf ever since because it is not any good.

Yeah, no way The Seagull is going anywhere. What Bening needs is a shameless Still Alice-level piece of Oscar bait.

That trailer itself is garbage. Hard pass.

Still Alice is a random happenstance. After Moore’s Sarah Palin conversation about her lack of Oscar grew then she won at Cannes for a movie the Academy would never touch.

Julianne Moore was fab af in Still Alice and did give the best female performance that year, all this is non-sense.

Glenn Close is by far the most overdue actor alive. I think Bening will win an Oscar before Close though.

Julianne Moore didn’t even give a Top 20 performance in Still Alice.

The trailer doesn’t look good, sadly. I don’t see it being an award contender. Also, the role of Arkadina is a lead one.

I think that Bening was close (at the very least in the top 10) the last two years and, much like with Julianne Moore before and Amy Adams now, I keep thinking that Academy members are going to just hold back nominating her again until they are confident that it is “her year to win.” I’m glad she’s working steadily at this stage of her career and hope she gets that momentum soon, but I just doubt it’s there with The Seagull.
