Regina King If Beale Street Could Talk

Coupled with the Olivia Colman upset and the direr choices in the male categories I understand the resentment towards this win will only grow.

    This.

Do you know how hard really laughing is when acting? Then stifling that laughter? Then choking on it?

This is a sign of showing a character ark! A lot of people have been complaining about him being one-note so this is in interesting take… I think with Arthur, the shifts are extra pronounced because he’s still sort of shopping for his personality. He’s so, so socially unaware that he takes on these different roles throughout the film–he tries being the self-deprecating nice guy, he tries being the sardonic guy who is too smart for the world..ultimately the final personality he adopts is that of the Joker, in which he finds himself.

Strong point. Just remember that Phoenix is the punching bag at the moment in these forums. Don’t be surprised if he starts getting awards some people to say “he’s Razzie worthy.”
The movie is not a masterpiece, but he did very well and deserves the praise that (thankfully) he’s getting outside of this bubble.
Besides, that almost $1 billion mark is a feat no other potential nominee (male or female) will likely be able to claim for their films in contention. And to think those numbers are mainly because of him. So, things are looking amazingly for Mr Phoenix 🙂, Oscar or not.

Those of you who typed Lady Gaga and Margot Robbie just don’t know what good performances look like.

Both performances should have won in their respective years.

Chromatica: Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album.

Rain On Me: Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Music Video.

Her best performance was reading O-livi-a Col-man.

Are you implying she was acting in that moment and the winner was actually Close?

Pantheon of acting: Uta / Elizabeth / Richard / Sandy (Virginia Woolf), Bibi / Liv (Persona), Sandrine (La Ceremonie), Brie (Short Term 12), Jodie (Silence of the Lambs), Jodie (Killing Eve), Eva (Penny Dreadful), Timothée (CMBYN), Lupita (Us)

No love. Simply her soldiering on when she had to read someone other than Close’s name. The drama of it all. It was acting because she definitely had to console someone afterwards.

Glenn Close in The Wife. Shouldn’t have even been nominated. I’d even rate Gaga’s perfectly “meh” performance before Close’s mediocre attempt. The way she desperately tried to ride that overdue narrative like her life depended on it… I HAVE TO LAUGH. She even wore gold!

*Insert Nicki Minaj evil laugh gif*

Resentful Toni didn’t factor in the final five I see.

Lady Gaga in ASIB is the most overrated performance of the past few years. Everyone expected her to be bad, but she managed to be just bearable. Some people acted like it was an actually good performance because of this. The extremely low expectations set by the people based on her cringe-worthy work in AHS helped the reception to her performance and that’s why when non-stans watched it after the hype they found it disappointing and lackluster. J.Lo is in the same boat this year.

Now, that’s just hating and proves that the performance is clearly not overrated at all in Goldderby. Did she deserve to win? No. Did she give a good performance? Yes.

This is going to be controversial (and an unpopular opinion) but Lupita Nyong’o in 12 Years a Slave.
It was an okay-ish performance. I 100% support Lupita for an Oscar nomination in “Us” (her best role to date), but in 12 Years a Slave I though it was just ok. But I know that the nomination carried other symbolisms such as the important message of the movie.
For me Julia Roberts should have won. Her performance in “August Osage County” was mesmerising. And the movie should have been nominated for Best Picture. Jennifer Lawrence’s performance was also superior to Lupita. I think her perfomance in American Hustle was better than in Silver Lining Playbook.

    FYC Emmys 2020:
Sienna Miller - The Loudest Voice
    Anne Hathaway - Modern Love
    Zoë Kravitz - High Fidelity

Leo in The Revenant. Literally any of his other nominated roles deserved to win because to be honest, he’s not very believable in The Revenant

Roberts deserved a nomination in Lead, even more than Streep. Nasty fraud.
