Lady Gaga in ASIB is the most overrated performance of the past few years. Everyone expected her to be bad, but she managed to be just bearable. Some people acted like it was an actually good performance because of this. The extremely low expectations set by the people based on her cringe-worthy work in AHS helped the reception to her performance and that’s why when non-stans watched it after the hype they found it disappointing and lackluster. J.Lo is in the same boat this year.

Resentful Toni didn’t factor in the final five I see.

Never expected her to, although she should’ve been.  I was team Colman all the way.  One of the best performances of the decade.

    Nice try though.

Now, that’s just hating and proves that the performance is clearly not overrated at all in Goldderby. Did she deserve to win? No. Did she give a good performance? Yes.

This is going to be controversial (and an unpopular opinion) but Lupita Nyong’o in 12 Years a Slave.
It was an okay-ish performance. I 100% support Lupita for an Oscar nomination in “Us” (her best role to date), but in 12 Years a Slave I though it was just ok. But I know that the nomination carried other symbolisms such as the important message of the movie.
For me Julia Roberts should have won. Her performance in “August Osage County” was mesmerising. And the movie should have been nominated for Best Picture. Jennifer Lawrence’s performance was also superior to Lupita. I think her perfomance in American Hustle was better than in Silver Lining Playbook.

Leo in The Revenant. Literally any of his other nominated roles deserved to win because to be honest, he’s not very believable in The Revenant

Roberts deserved a nomination in Lead, even more than Streep. Nasty fraud.

Glenn Close in The Wife. Shouldn’t have even been nominated. I’d even rate Gaga’s perfectly “meh” performance before Close’s mediocre attempt. The way she desperately tried to ride that overdue narrative like her life depended on it… I HAVE TO LAUGH. She even wore gold! *Insert Nicki Minaj evil laugh gif*

Gary Oldman in a fat suit hamming it to the hilt in The Darkest Hours; Frances McDormand playing a role she has played over and over again except this time without lots of colourful language in Three Billboards…..; Margo Robbie & Allison Janney (wasted) in one-note broad work in I. Tonya; Kevin Spacey & Annette Benning (see I, Tonya) in American Beauty.

OMG this. Tired of these excessive performances. Yes, sometimes the acting has to be flashy because the part or the style/tone of the movie requires it but very few actually manage not to cross the line into overacting and seem natural. Meanwhile subtle performances are discarded even though they can be as hard to pull off as the showier ones. Sometimes even tougher because all the focus is on the actor and he doesn’t get to hide behind lots of screaming, prosthetics and make up.

And it’s annoying when people start crediting/praising the actor for resembling the real life character they are playing, when it’s the make-up team that should actually be lauded. Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill and Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly are the most prominent examples in recent times.

Sam Ratwell in Three Billboards. I know his Oscar win is widely panned here, but I still think he’s overrated because that cretin still occasionally gets “no, he wasn’t THAT bad” shoutouts here. He was. He is the worst Oscar winning performance this decade to me. At least Rami Malek attempted to play a facsimile of a person. At least Eddie Redmayne in The Theory of Everything attempted to perform a role, even if he didn’t succeed. God, even that worthless creep Jared Leto made me feel less like the entirety of acting as a concept was worthless than that rat did.

    For Your Consideration:

Best Picture: Weathering With You, Parasite, The Lighthouse
Best Supporting Actor: Willem Dafoe - The Lighthouse
Best Animated Feature: Weathering With You, Promare
Best International Film: Weathering With You, Parasite

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen such vitriol towards a performance. Are you mad that Dafoe lost, or is he really that bad? (I’m genuinely asking since I haven’t seen Three Billboards)

Laughs. I feel Brockovich is her best nominated performance.

Kathy Bates for Best Supporting Actress (Richard Jewell)
