    Harrelson deserved it.

This thread’ s not for me and I’d been rooting for Rockwell for decades, but…

To stay on topic, I find this to be the most overrated performance of the year:

She was sweet in the role but that category isn’t that devoid of worthy contenders, surely? I’ve just recently watched it and her performance doesn’t call for the hype she’s getting here. Diana Lin had a much richer performance but is barely even talked about.

Yeah, the character is good, of course. But if we are being critical..herself as an actress didn’t emote me at all. I also didn’t feel chemistry between her and Awkwafina, at any moment. Which I could see with Diana Lin, who I agree gives the best supporting performance of the film.

I agree with Casey Affleck. Denzel acted circles around him. That August Wilson dialogue is insanely difficult and both him and Viola gave masterclass performances. Also, Yalitza really wasn’t great. Cuarón filmed half the film with her back to the camera for a reason.

I actually really liked Yalitza’s performance. The fact that she wasn’t an actress and was a teacher when she signed up for the role made her performance so raw and pure to me. I loved that Alfonso Cuaron cast her actual best friend in the movie to play her best friend. It made the performance much more real. Yalitza wasn’t comfortable with the nudity so Cuaron filmed the nude scene and Yalitza separately. But she’s from a small village so it’s understandable. Marina de Tavira is absolutely phenomenal in Roma so I’m so glad she got the oscar nomination last year. Her performance also aided Yalitza a lot, as actors feed off of one another so she had a big part of Yalitza’s beach scene with her crying that she never wanted the baby that she lost.

My most overrated performances are mostly all Julia Roberts and Jennifer Lawrence performances, sorry Kellis! (The Joy nom was a joke and she should not have beat Jessica Chastain in 2013, who was nominated for Zero Dark Thirty). Gwyneth Paltrow winning the Oscar for Shakespeare in Love over Cate Blanchett for Elizabeth still bugs me. Honestly, same with the Judi Dench win that year but unfortunately, that was at the height of the Weinstein campaigning fiasco. As much as I love Meryl Streep, I felt that her performance in The Post should not have been nominated for an Oscar and was pure Oscar bait. The nomination that year should have gone to Vicky Krieps for Phantom Thread. Lastly, Emma Stone’s win for the literal Hollywood handjob, La La Land. Her performance was nothing special and the award should have gone to Isabelle Huppert for Elle who delivered such a complex and deep performance.

After rewatching Closer, I can say that Clive Owen and Natalie Portman losing respectively to Morgan Freeman in Million Dollar Baby and Cate Blanchett in The Aviator was sort of a mess and both of those performances are overrated

Margot Robbie having Oscar buzz for dancing and smiling in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is an absolute joke.

She’s overrated in general as an actress. She just happens to be marketable and reasonably talented, but damn! talk about overpraise for her, especially here at GD.

That’s some taste right there in your last couple of sentences, Rachel. Queen Isabelle.

There was a couple scenes in the first season of Big Little Lies between Celeste and her therapist and Nicole slips between accents so much it’s laughable.

At least it’s refreshing to hear ONE decent Australian accent in Hollywood, even if it is by accident. Much preferred to the pathetic attempts by non-Australians which are horrendous on each and every occasion.

She does dick in the movie worthy of awards.

I'm not perfect, but I keep trying.
